The "Boston Globe" announced earlier this year that "Frampton Comes Alive" was voted one of the best live albums of all time. So, if this is'nt one of the best live recordings of all time then what is?
My vote goes to the Ramones "it's Alive"
It's worth saying that the Frampton album celebrates it's 30th birthday this year,which is probably why it did so well in the list.
stop making sense by the talking heads. Fantastic moving picture also. I started to appreciate them after seeing the film. Unfortunately, their studio albums never matched the live energy they had.

Neiher a classic or particularly "live" I reckon this is one of the most overhyped albums/movies of all time. It's overdubbed to f**k and the editing on the original 1984 version cuts whole verses out of some of the tracks so that they can squeeze more onto the record. Also bear in mind that the original leaves out some of the best tracks from the movie (Crosseyed & Painless and This Must Be The Place being the two biggies)in favour of some real stinkers (Swamp!).
Far superior is "The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads" which came out a few years earlier and features tracks from three different gig recordings. The lo-fi quality of the first few tracks is mega and must hail from right at the start of their career.
If you compare "Psycho Killer" on Stop Making Sense to the same track on TNOTBITH then you'll see why most Heads fans regard it as a much more accurate record of their live output.
For some weird reason it was never released on CD til about 2 years ago.

I see this is not about the crap band called 'Live'.
I dunno other than the Order I really don't much care for live recordings.

Forgot about that one. I feel sure that James are a rare example of a band that improved with age. The last gig is them at the top of their game.

My favourite non New Order gig - Uncly John took me along for a MAD day out. We thought the Mondays were gonna be shite, but they turned in the best performance of their career.

Nah,im not having that! Ive got both editions of Stop Making Sense (i agree the original 9 track version was below par),and i`ve also got The Name Of The Band Is Talking Heads. Talking Heads are my second favourite band,second only to New Order,and the expanded Stop Making Sense is far superior.
