we once talked about WWI

On Saturday, one of the last veterans passed away at the age of 105.

From now, five veterans remain alive. I read the story of them all. One of them is Jean G., born on the 26th of October 1898. He was sent to the front in 1917. Caught by the Germans, he escaped from a prisonier camp in Belgium and carried on fighting until the end in November 1918. In 1939, at the age of 41, he went back to the army despite his age (the army told him he was too old to do so but that was his will). After the humiliation of the battle of France, he went back to Paris in 1940 where he, at once, took part in a resistance network. Then, he was to live four years and a half in "the army of shadow". By now, he is peacefully living somewhere in Paris.

Well, I do not know what to say... it seems like a novel...

I'm so glad someone brought the WWI topic up. It was an interesting time, where's my Pickelhaube?

It has been said that the last one to die would have the honors of National Funerals...

They did everything they could to obey the orders and survive and almost a century later, they find themselves in a kind of stupid competition that is to know who will die the last one to get the honors... stupid politics...

Well that sure is asinine. But so many awards in war are much about politics.
