Ok, then, I'll say it (assumes hysterical screaming voice)

omg fox news evil!!!

I think the funniest thing is the Republicans adopting the "Clinton did bad stuff too" defense. The fact that they cannot see the difference between CONSENSUAL behavior by ADULTS and sexually soliciting persons under the age of consent is profoundly disturbing.

Can you name some of these "Republicans" that have drawn this link to Clinton's behaviour?

And if we believe the Mark Foley defense, homosexual pedophilia is caused by alcoholism. :nonono:

no no no he was molested by a priest when he was a teenager!

c'mon, by Fox News reasoning... if he is gay, then he MUST be a Democrat who was pretending to be a Republican to cause a scandal... damn thou immoral Democrats!

i would bet that Foley was probably somewhat well know among his peers for his overly attentive interest in male teenagers. of course just because older guys have an interest and "flirt" does not make them full blown active sexual predators, but this is obviously very inappropriate and hypocritical.

I've had older guys be overly faux friendly and patranizing, you gotta just avoid showing any interest back even if you are just being polite... people are not nice for no reason. Atleast I've never been molested, but I never understand the "i was molested, molestation is bad, so years later it made me molest excuse", at least as a direct excuse for behavior.

How about Fox News Washington Bureau chief Britt Hume? Hume Compares Foley Scandal to Clinton Scandal

Sean Hannity also made some similar comments on Hannity and Colmes a couple of nights ago. Give it a couple of weeks, there will be more.

That said, I work in an extremely political field in the most conservative state in the country--and I've heard similar statements over and over again--including the bizzare claim that if Foley had been a democrat, the allegations would have been ignored.

To make your point for you, YES, those comments didn't come from ELECTED republicans. I should have said "republican pundits." Also, my comments were not intended as a jab, necessarily, at "republicans" as a whole. I am a democrat, and lord knows people in my party have resorted to the "they did it too" defense on occasion. I just meant to point out the idiocy of any comparison between sexually soliciting minors and consensual sexual behavior.

surely in the Land of the Lawyer, the Democrats can sue Fox over this, at best they get an apology, at worst Fox try to make something of it and demonstrate what spastics they are.

The more religious a son of a bitch is, the more likely he wants to fondle boys balls it seems. They mst have misunderstoo that line about "suffer little children...."

Hardcore dogmatic Christians are some of the most ironic people I've ever met. And I live in southwest Georgia so I've met more than a few.

I'm so sick of Fox News. But I agree that this should be compared to the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal. Now, that's what I call bipartisanship; both parties seriously need some reform.

An illegal pedophilic relationship (if the page hadn't been jailbait, it would've been a somewhat different story) should be compared to a consensual blowjob?

Hey, these were not professional relationships in the capital. There has to be reform in the internship and page programs. Both parties really screwed that up.

When in doubt, go Independent.

If you watch Fox News for your news...the terrorists win

Hey, I used to watch Fox News since that's the only news channel my Dad watches :ignore: ... Fortunately, I'm not going to follow in his footsteps. :p

Anyway, I'm going to go independent. Both the Republican and the Democratic Party are going downhill. Plus, I can't just pick a side, I decide on my own.

If you want unbiased happenings, go watch C-SPAN.

ummmm believe it or not most pedophiles are overwhelmingly heterosexual in their other desires.

and two....saying this is like Monica Gate is BULLSHIT...Yes it was inappropriate but she was a 21 year old consenting adult.

The people Mr. Foley was interested in are underage and more than a few were probably disgusted by his advances. In a sense it does not surprise me that he was caught. Plenty of folks we would never expect engage in all sorts of unspeakable acts. It just freaks me out.

Careful now. We don't want to expose Shug's peccadillos to the media's attention.

They only want you when you're 17. When you're 21, you're no fun.

He's a Republican. His MSN messages with that lad are curious. Although they might be typical for gay online conversations. What a pity for the Republicans. Why is it always them? We should form a New-Republican Party.

Even though she is a consenting adult, let's not forget that Monica was an intern fooling the married President Clinton. And let's not forget, also, with the Chandra Levy/Gary Condit connection; CBS was the only news network that did not report the Levy case. A clear example of bias. Slap in the face for the Democrats.

And yes, Foley is a pedophile, but the Republican Party should have done better to protect the pages. Slap in the face for the Republicans.

So both parties, in essence, screwed up in the internship/page relations...

The one thing that bugs me about this is that when the Democrats gain 50 seats in Congress, the Republicans are going to blame it on their strategy regarding this scandal, rather than the real issues... like American voters getting sick of the "war on terror."

but people in power wanting to use their position for getting sex is nothing new, it is pretty much the history of civilization...

hypocracy, unwanted advances, using people... nothing new here, they are used to keeping this type of stuff "quiet" in political circles, all governments and parties

years ago i was told by somebody who was active in the Republican party back in the 60s and 70s how it was not unusual for some guys (elected or unelected) to demand/expect a bottle of alcohol and a prostitute of their preferred flavour to be present in their hotel room every time they came thru town, or there would be hell to pay. heck, it used to be normal to have "concubines" and women/men set up on the side unofficially to satisfy sexual pleasures... things are probably cleaner nowadays compared to the past

Politicians are politicians....doesn't really matter the party, just different ways of selling you to put then into power. Funny how people get so anal about party lines.

Two points:

  1. I don't think you would've posted this if it were a Democrat congressman. Maybe not you yourself but I'm sure Tex would've weighed in with some ultra smug comment but in this instance he seems to have been robbed of that opportunity.

  2. People getting anal about "party lines" is surely the basis of democracy itself? Otherwise what is the point in having different parties to choose from? You're in denial if you think nobody's bothered which party the "perv" comes from in this instance. I am not seeing what's "funny" about that considering political parties are heavily reliant on associations and reputations.

This type of thing is precisely one of the reasons the Tories were so thoroughly destroyed in the 1997 election over here because of the sheer amount of sleaze in their ranks. Tory ministers who were caught sucking off rent boys in a fish tank etc. didn't do them much good.

The old "Hey who cares which party they're from?" is a pretty desperate defence isn't it? As I say, I doubt you would've come out with it if it were really a Democrat congressman.

My point is that party lines are a necissary evil for democracy. They are good because not everyone gets the opportunity (or time) to really get involved and understand all the issues, bills, and politicians to choose from. The party "stands" for certian "ideals" with which the voter associates with. So when a party backs a certian topic, then the voter assumes that it us under thier belief.

The problem with this is that politicians HAVE to fit in a certian box. If they don't agree on all the issues, then they become a blacksheep and the party doesn't back them strongly, making it hard for them to be reelected or have their bill backed by the party. We, in essence, have forced our politicians to "lie", saying they back certian issues, even if they don't, to stay in good will with the party.

So almost all politicians are in a position that requires lying, but yet when we find out one of them is dishonest we are all up in arms.

This is not to say all politicians are "bad", as there are good ones, on both sides, democrat and republican.

Personally I would like to do away with party lines, but then the issues would only get confused further, and is not a practical solution to the problem.

Dear Ally,

I wouldn't want to deny you any smugness....

Politically speaking - and let's take it for what it is - I don't think the Foley thing is that big a deal for the Reublicans. As a matter of fact, I think the Democrats will overplay their hands on this "issue". Let's examine: Foley didn't break any laws; it's now alleged that he had sex with a former page who was 21 at the time; his spokesman came out and said he's gay. All of these issues conspire against the credibility of Democratic indignation. You only have to look to their vehement defense of Bill Clinton. "No laws were broken! It was consensual sex!" Plus, the added complication of Democrats having to by extension condem gay sex. For a Republican, this is all very delicious.
