Pulling Boys/Girls.....The Old Skool Way

Was involved in a discussion about the olden days before mobiles and texting existed. When, after getting a burds number up the student union/disco dancing, you had to dial her HOUSEPHONE and speak to her MUM OR DAD and ask to speak to the girl while totally shiteing youreself.

The kids of today have got it so easy with all this texting, msn and myspace pish. Pullin is now a walk in the park. The only phone in our place sat in the hall so every cunt in the house could hear your conversation and the lucky lady on the end of the phone could hear my three wee sisters fighting or my dad walking past and farting loudly!

Needing to phone up and speak to some bird you've met once's mum was a true character building experience

Nostalgia ya old bugger?

Totally agree though, it always seemed to be the birds DAD that answered the phone. A horrible experience, especially as my first long term girlfriend's dad was a horrible blue nose.

17 years old, I once sat in one Friday night and went through all the Dolan's in the Luton and Dunstable telephone book asking if there was a {insert-name} there cos it was a bird I'd met but didn't know her number.

She had quite a unique Christian name (Oirish) so thank fcuk there was only the one of her.

But there's a lot of Dolans in Luton to get through first.

Thank fcuk she was in when I eventually got the right number.

Character building, I can tell you.

Isn't getting the digits the hardest part?

Gah, I hated calling girls on the phone. Sweaty palms, nervous chatter, hesitant pauses which may or may not have been a good thing...and that was all before I actually dialled the number :nervous:

Anyone else ever pull the "every number but one" dial? That's where I'd go for it without thinking, dialing right up to the last number...then realizing that she might pick up, and I'd have to talk to her and try and be fun to talk to. Then I'd hang it up, take a few breathes, and try again. I think one time, I took at least fourteen tries before I went ahead and pressed the last number...and of course she wasn't home :banghead:

So I welcome the slightly shady world of internet dating. She may not really be a supermodel (or a "she"), but I can be more charming and suave through my keyboard than through my mouth. :computer2:

Very similar story. 16 years old, in a club for the very first time. I snogged a bird called Vanessa Brown. All I knew was that she was from Rutherglen. No happy ending though. Turns out Brown's quite a popular surname!

The worst thing that could ever happen though was to get a girls number when you were both a bit drunk, make "the call" and then hear in the background going "Who?....Don't know him. Tell him I'm not in!" Excrutiatingly embarassing.

It was always easier to cop off down the local swimming baths.

pre puberty of course.

post puberty - fuckin nightmare.

Good work!

Reminds me of something we used to say at University - if you laid all the female Chemistry studends end-to-end, it wouldn't be the first time.

Oh we were such wags

My one lasting memory of my dialathon was asking if [x] was there - remember I said the girl had a very Oirish first name?

And the bloke who answered said, rather indignantly, "No, we're a Christian household, there's no pakis here!" and slammed the phone down.

My dad had a phone in the shed and I remember retreating out there to call up a girl I'd met a couple of nights earlier - didn't get past the problem of her parents answering at the other end though...

Never worried much about the phone calls. Not much to look at, but I've been told I have a great phone voice. Used to be my old trick. Trick them into giving me their phone number. wait a week, so they forgot what I looked like. Call them up, hook them with my voice, then when I showed up at the door they usually had this face that said "you're not who I thought you were", but that time I was already "in", so smoothed my way through the rest. Luckily women don't care as much as us lads do on looks, or I wouldn't have got as much as I did.
