The Departed

Went to see the new Martin Scorsese film "The Departed" tonight and it was the best movie I've seen this year. It's the story of the South Boston mob and police corruption that is quite similiar to that of real life mobster Whitey Bulger. If you're into mob flicks it's must see.

I can't wait to see it too. :) Probably will see it next weekend. I'm so busy...

Saw it last night as well. As you would expect Nicholson and Dicaprio were both brilliant. Definitely recommended

I have to admit some skepticism on my part when I first saw the ads for it ("DiCaprio! Nicholson! Damon! Sheen! Wahlberg! Scorsese!"), because a lot of the times all-star casts like that are a disaster. But I'm willing to give Marty the benefit of the doubt (this is the man who brought us Goodfellas, after all). As to whether I'll see it before it come out on DVD...iffy. But I would pony up the cash to see it after some of the positive buzz I've heard about it

Gosh, I hope not. They've been trying to shove a Scorsese Oscar down everyone's throat for years now, nominating his last few pieces of shit regardless of stench. If he can pull another Taxi Driver out of his ass, give him the fucking Oscar. If not, who cares? Oscars are just another Hollywood marketing tool, anyway. If he wins something at Cannes or Berlin or Toronto, it'll be a much greater victory...you know, with more than just American excrement in the running.

Watched this yesterday. Hands up,wasnt expecting it to be THAT good,knew it would be good otherwise i wouldnt of paid 6.50 to go watch it. It was excellent,proof if it was needed that Scorsese can still make a film as good as Goodfellas.

I saw it last night. its pretty good aye, but hyped up to fuck (more the norm nowadays). Jack Nicholson isn't that good in it, For me the Wahlberg was the best thing in it.

Yea I agree Mark Wahlberg was the best the actor in the film.

Just been out and bought the Infernal Affairs trilogy dvds. Must be worth the £20 if Hollywood thought it was worth spending $100 million on a remake.

alright, for me, it wasn't that good. I've been a fan of the Infernal Affairs original, so that has to be said. I thought the remake was good in the beginning when both main characters' background was getting more development over the original, but thought the revisions to the story were ridiculous. One of which was how the baddies, when realizing there was a "rat in their crew" would not put more suspicion on Dicaprio's character when they knew he was "kicked out" of the academy. In the original, the bad guys never knew he was a cop before, but in this remake they did. So... why not execute the main suspect? There was nothing his character did short of beat up a couple of guys that would enable their trust of him.

I thought the ending, which was different from the original was also kind of cheesy. If you've watched both films, you'll know what I mean.. and, I most likely didn't mean for that to have been a pun.

Finally saw it last night. It was good. Scorsese is rehashing scenes from Taxi Driver and Mean Streets btw. I hope this guy finally gets an Oscar.

Yeah, I thought it was quite good, although it was a bit implausible that Di Caprio had boxes of tapes and nobody thought to turn them over. Di Caprio's performance was excelllent. Good use of the Dropkick Murphys in a Boston-based film, too.

Great stuff all around...good performances. Gee Leo and Matt are not just pretty to look at?? hehe

and is it me or has Jack just play "Jack" his entire career??

and well btw nice inclusion of the Murphys...they are working class Boston.

I loved it. I thought we were left to assume that the Dr Girlfriend opened the envelope after Leo dies, otherwise, how does Marky Mark know to come after Matt Damon? I loved that bit at the end, where matt Damon just goes sigh, rolls his eyes and says "ok", then gets it. Too perfect.

Just back from seeing it. I liked it, but the ending (with the rat on the balcony) just hammered home the point to us.
