Damn Yankees

Get rid of selfish Sheffield, get rid of Randy (Big Useless Unit) Johnson (I hate you I hate you I hate you!), get rid of Steroid/HGH man Giambi and maybe this team will start to have some passion again. Paul O'Neill retiring left the Yanks with a bunch of passionless if technically skilled players - they Yanks gotta have someone with the drive to win like O'Neill. And stop the A-Rod bashing - he's a fantastic player and he isn't the problem! Think of it - the best player in the game switches positions in his prime to play for the Yanks. He's not a problem. And, maybe, just maybe, it's time for Torre to go and Lou Piniella to manage the Bombers.
The worse thing? Kenny f***king Rogers, who couldn't go a post-season game for the Yanks without surrendering 6 runs in like two innings, suddenly discovering how to pitch for the Tigers and beating Randy f**king Johnson. I hate Steinbrenner for putting me in a position to have to root for that f**ker.

Ugh. At least they humiliated the Red Sox. The year's not a total loss.

Just had to get that off my chest -those not familiar with baseball might want to return to your soccer game, I'm sure there's a fascinating nil-nil tie going on somewhere. I hate the world. How long till pitchers and catchers?

Good rant there, excellent points all of 'em, especially about A-Rod and the Bosux.

My thoughts on the Yankees:

My favorite players: Jeter, A-Rod, Matsui (I remembered you from the Tokyo Giants days ), Johnson, and Sheffield.

My rant about the Yankees: They have been pretty snobbish for so long, so it's a good thing that they didn't win a spot in the World Series.

If they had solid starting pitching they'd have been set. Wang had an awesome start in game one, but the pitching of this team doesn't hold a candle to the late 90s era Yankees.

Jared Wright would never have made a start on the '98, '99, '00 or hell, even the '96 team.

It doesn't help that two of their biggest, most consistant bats were gone for most of the season and them come back and play crappily. Not totally unexpected either. No one comes back from a massive injury at the top of their game. They need to get back in their rythm. Sure they might do fine inbatting practice, but its just practice. Even Mussina was hurt off and on this season which didn't help in the post season.

I love Joe and I hate to see him go, he did a lot of good with this team. 10 Post season appearances, 6 WS appearences, and 4 wins is fucking great no matter what team you are.

Well, there's always next year.

Baseball is boring to watch fun to play.

I keep getting dragged to Phillies games (luckily they didn't make the playoffs so I was spared that).

Another boring one: Hockey (sorry, Canada), and I think I'm getting dragged to a couple of those this year.

Of course, I don't get dragged to anything good like football (both types) or basketball.

But hockey more boring than American football, really?

At least the hockey game doesn't stop for 20 mins after 10 secs of play. Seriously, don't get it.

No disrespect to the dead, but from what I recall of his time in NY Lidle was not the best guy on their pitching roster. But I get what you're saying; anytime a team loses a member to an accident, it's never easy.

I think he will be, too, at least up until the first time Steinbrenner blows his top (which should come sometime after the New Year, if not before).

I honestly wonder if Torre still wants the job: he's got a revolving door of overpaid superstars that don't play together at all, a few diehards from the championship era who don't pull their weight at all anymore, and the world's most overbearing boss to contend with. It's surely stopped being fun for the poor guy. As much as I despise the 2000-to-now Yankees, Torre deserves some credit and respect for being between a rock and a hard place. Either that, or Steinbrenner's getting soft in his old age.

Get rid of A-Rod, Giambi, Matusi, get some good young talent (this year's Tigers are a good example of that), stop worrying about superstars to fill the seats and start thinking about ways to actually win something, and you might just see them get back to being the Yankees. But I doubt Steinbrenner will be able to resist wasting his money...can you say "in left field, batting third for the Yankees, Barry Bonds"?
