Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer was on a promotional tour of Australia and New Zealand and found plenty of Toon fans and Geordie exiles waiting to greet him:
Shearer hits what he called his first goal in five months However, it was a painful experience for one 14-year old goalkeeper who broke his wrist in saving a penalty from Big Al. Shearer later said, "It was the first shot I'd hit in anger since I retired. I thought, 'This kid is pretty good so I'll have a go.' I just smashed it but he got a hand to it and kept it out. When I went over to congratulate him it was obvious he'd broken his wrist."
