Just been on Sky News. It looks like an accident, small plane. Think its safe to say its not another 9/11.

Bloody hell! Still it must have been unsettling for New Yorkers again.

By the way, thanks C-Ro. Now I'll forever remember this day and the time you told me, so that it will have an ever lasting memory of tragedy that I can associate with.

i hope this is just an accident.

4 dead so far.

"Initial reports indicate that the plane was registered to New York Yankee's pitcher Corey Lidle."

Hum that is weird.

I hope it was a weird suicide attempt because the Yankees didn't advanc in the playoffs to make the world series

that would bring me at least 30 seconds of laughter and amusement.

they just found his passport on the street...

wtf?

You are so on the ball, far too busy with this bloody teaching lark to know what is going on these days, hence my absence and lack of arguments :)

Bit crap really seeing as Business and Law are my subjects as the real world may be a little relevant there.

Back to the point before I get told off, hope it really is an accident there and nothing more than that.

if so, why did he have to take out other lives. couldn't he have ditched it into the harbour?

this does raise a few questions like how good the post 9/11 airspace security really is if a plane can fly at low altitude over NY?

You forget Ron, there are small airfields nearer Manhattan and endless helipads on the buildings, a light aircraft in the area is not at all unusual.

I live in a highrise and see helicopters speeding about all the time. They are either news crews, medical workers or Donald Trump.

helicopters yes, but how many planes fly at low altitude over built up areas, if not appraching or departing from an airport?

Shades of Thurman Munson, and just a day after Torre was allowed to keep his head :nonono:

I'm not a Yankee fan, but this is a GD tragedy no matter who you root for.

I hope it's an accident, nothing more sinister

if you look up the street address on google you will see the apartment lines the hudson river. small aircraft can fly the hudson.

i can't believe she suggested it was a suicide attempt. pretty low class.

yeah, maybe he was just really drunk!

Confirmed that Yankees Rounders Club star Cory Liddle was flying the aircraft.

Initial reports say he didn't make it... but his goatee did.

I'll be the first to ask.... did he not see the huge fecking building approaching in the windscreen?

He was flying up a commonly used VFR corridor along the east river. It ends up around the lower east side before running into LaGuardia's controlled airspace. This requires recreational sightseers to do a tricky U-turn.

It was an overcast day and there was a steady easterly wind, which made it more difficult. Flying a fixed-wing up that way yesterday was, frankly, a bad idea.
