As someone who can't drive ( at least legally) I am a big fan of public transport. But tonight, I dragged my post-bournemouth arse outta a very pleasant bed, and hauled it to the bus station to get to work. No bus appeared. No taxi's at station, and no taxi company answering their phone. Fucked if I am walking. So shitty translink have stck a 50 quid hole in my "Octobermessed" money. gits.

I also witnessed first hand what yous are all whinging about regarding English railways the other day....wow, what a clusterfuck.

that's why i drive. public transport in this city has to be the worst in australia. busses have an uncanny knack of turning 25 min trips into 90 min trips and because canberra is so spead out taxies are very exxy, that's if you can book one. our new taxi booking system doesn't even recognise my suburb.

LOL, you gotta love that. Our broadband fucked up, we phone Brit telecom, they said "that number doesn;t exist".

"Errrrrm, so how am i talking to you then?"

I usually usually cycle into town, but if I need to do the weekly shop I have to drive cos all the supermarkets are out of town and the bus service to them is either shite or non-extistant... The buses in Cambridge are pretty good and there's loads of cycle paths, but public transport stops running too early, you either have to miss last orders or the last bus! :nonono:

Even if they are efficient, this is the same old problem. When I was student, one of my last classes used to finish at 20:00... So, never out before 20:15. Then, I had to go to the main bus station downtown (no problem as it was inner city network). Problem was : the last bus to drive me home (suburb)used to leave at 19:20 !!! Happy Mondays it was !

Tell me about it. Last train I can take from London to get the last train from Peterborough to March is the 21.07 from Kings Cross. I couldn't even go for a decent piss up in Cambridge or Peterborough if I wanted to

I think that means I'd have to leave Wembley before New Order took the stage and it rules out NOOL day too :banghead:  It was so much easier when I lived in Stanmore, 4 stops on the tube from Wembley :\ohwell:

I drive but do occasionally get buses, for example if I want to go out after work drinking. I do try and avoid it though as I ALWAYS get the bus loony sat next to me.

As anyone who lives in the Cheshire, Manchester or Lancashire areas will be able to tell you, buses here all tend to come bunched together in fours and fives.... you wait at least 30 minutes for one on even the most busy routes and then six of them all come together. Now what is the bleeding point of THAT?

Only in Britain, of course. Only in Britain....... :shades:

Well F1 has cunt all to do with riving, to quote Barney "it's all done all by computers". But yes I do love motorsport. I can drive a car, I just neer bothered my hole with a license (or a car), basically, I don;t trust myself with someting that dangerous, and am terrified that the roads are full of spastics. Good in a go-kart though :D

Ah, you are referring to my wonderful experience I assume? Nothing like an hour and a half wait................ripped off for a single ticket.........and then a reservation system that didn't work??????? Thankfully you were there, otherwise I would have almost certainly, thumped that stupid woman!

same here, but I have to say driving across Warsaw is going boring and boring, mainly cos its damn traffic. I do thing about buying some scooter.

Bingo! The computerised reservations system woul work a whole lot better if the fuckers turned the telemetry on and let tehe stations update the bloody trains, and vice versa. I am now shitting it about getting back to Manc for my flight home after Wolves. Doubly so since it was an SWT train I got TO Bournemouth and it was calm, empty and quiet, and it was the Virgin one that was a disaster, and guess who I am with on all my long train journeys :(

Having grown up in Philadelphia, I always used to depend on public transportation to get anywhere. Because a bus terminal and a train station - both that connected to the subway downtown - were at the bottom of my street, I rarely was in a car. Plus, insurance is very high in the city, so I never learned to drive. Boston had an adequate subway system, although the buses were crap. When I lived this past summer in Waltham, MA, a city outside of Boston, the only bus to take you into Cambridge and Boston wouldn't come. There was a time this summer when my significant other at the time and I decided to spend an afternoon at the beach and I said I'd go into downtown Boston. The bus I needed did not show up for almost 2 hours. I called the Massachusetts Bay transportation Authority office and I received a message that they were "receiving an influx of calls" and that I needed to wait. I wonder why...

Now that I've moved down to Hartford, CT, the public transportation pretty much stops at 7pm on week days and doesn't run on Sundays. Kind of makes me miss Boston's buses a bit. Or it just means I need to learn how to drive.

The only send about 2 busses to most of the housing estates round here after dark, the residents have a marked propensity for burning them out.

Funniest bus-related story I have is from about 4 years ago when this lad (a well known pisshead) turned up in our local and ordered a coke because he was driving.

We all looked at him in amazement, and said "A coke????? But, you don't even have a car!!"

"Well I have now. Well actually, not strictly a car, but it's outside. Look for yourself", and threw a bunch of keys on the bar.

We all peeped out the window and saw a 126 bus that he'd liberated from a bus station!!!

Quality!

Maybe that's where he got his idea from!!

Unfortunately this guy just drove it back to his local, then the Police came in and asked if anybody had seen who drove the bus. Luckily he's a popular bloke so didn't get arrested!!

Me and my friend Jenny got a bus into Bolton tonight. It's only a six mile journey but we're sick of being ripped off so we said we'd 'slum it on't bus'.

It was ace. Nice clean floors, polite driver and everybody was wearing shoes and everything.

I couldn't recommend it more. Seriously.

Buses are the future.

Course, I got a taxi home and he ripped me off, thieving gypsy bastard.

I'm going getting a bus tattoo tomorrow.

In fact, no, i'm goint to dismantle my bic and pencil sharpener as we speak.
