doesn't actually BBQ any of them though.
have you ever seen "The Commitments"? There's a scene in that where the bassplayer fries...your hand clamps round the neck and you cannot let go. My bastard mates rewound it about 15 times!
When I was in the states playing, I felt the warning twinge on my lip, from a microphone (meaning that either the PA is earthing through you to the bass amp, or vice versa...and meaning that, should either fail, YOU are the path to ground), spooked I told our techie, he said "shaddup, this is American, it's only 110V it wont kill you" ![]()
He of course knew as well as I did, that amplifiers can kick out all manner of high voltages when they fault.Imagine the 17KV pullup for a valve dumping into your arm...been there, it fucked me up for days, and I only lived cos it wasn't something I was holding, but a pin out on the back of the amp, that got me, so it only lasted microseconds, as I twitched away from it with the muscle spasm. If that had been through my bass, I'd have been a small pile of dust.
I'd never play my bass out in bad weather not even in the damn house during a storm. I repair computers and took (need to re-take) electricity principles....sometimes its just common sense. Especially since the weather is getting worse everywhere. I fucking got zapped in my right foot sitting in my closet during a passing thunderstorm...figured out it maybe had something to do with the fact that I had a shit load of resistors in an open box that i was sitting/leaning against behind me....
