I see a lot of similarities between their sound and more acoustic style New Order. Anyways, been listening to their debut album a lot lately. Love Neil Finn's lyrics. Anyone else into them?

i don't know many of their songs, but each one i've heard i absolutely love. especially don't dream it's over and fall at your feet. i love neil finn's voice.
I do like Crowded House, but really can't hear any New Order in there, or vice versa. They use the acoustic instruments in totally different ways, the melodies work in different ways.
I hear some Neil Finn when I listen to "Wierdo", "Way Of Life", and "All the Way". The acoustic pop side of New Order is where you would hear the similarites, I think.

Was it the band that got some airplay on MTV in the mid-90s and the guy had a fluffy blond hair? I don't remember their music. I only recall they were considered a "smart" band but to me they seemed artificial. Their music was a blend of various smart ideas and the result was boring. Though like I said I don't remember them now very well. They.
They were a good band. Unfortuately the drummer, Paul Hester committed suicide last year, after suffering from depression.
CH were an absolutely brilliant wee band and Neil Finn is easily one of the best songwriters music has seen in the last 40 years. He's the sort of songwriter Paul McCartney post-Beatles must've looked at and thought "Bastard" because he'd kill to write songs of Finn's standard (Solo Macca was always shite).
I rate Temple Of Low Men and Together Alone equally as the best CH albums and Finn's solo work - while less exposed - is definitely worth checking out (Try Whistling This in particular). It's incredibly sad everything got a bit too much for poor Hessie as a CH reunion tour would've been very welcome in 2005/06 :( I saw The Finn Brothers live in 2004 and even though they did the popular CH tunes it wouldn't have been the same as seeing the original band and I knew it.
I don't hear very many New Order musical similarities in there, maybe a few crop up on Temple Of Low Men (Never Be The Same is a bit New Order-ish, top tune) but otherwise they're pretty much seperate and that's the way I like it; can't listen to the same sort of stuff all the time.
Anyway, Private Universe is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life 
Don't Dream It's Over as well; it manages to be emotional but never cheesy which is a rare thing. I think even people who weren't particularly into CH recognise Neil Finn has a command of melody and songwriting few others have.
