Anybody could recommand a good one? I need to hunt one down tomorrow to transform 220V into 120V (so European standards into American standards)

not only will you need a converter, but also an adaptor as the plugs are different as well. i suppose that should be available in one unit. Yeh check out Radio Shack. i think i need to start looking for something the other way round sometime.
Airports are full of them, grab one at Heathrow...you will of course pay through the balls for it, but it should be of decent quality. Lots of devices have a voltage selector on their rear panels too.

Should be able to purchase them in any major store that sells luggage.
Also, computers and other devices meant for travel can be plugged into 110 or 220 (as long as you have a plug adapter) and don't need "converters".
Check the power supply on the device. Most are adaptable to either voltage.
But yeah... definitely check Radio Shack or maybe even Best Buy or similar electronics type place. They'll charge a premium at the airport.
When I was stuck at Shannon, Ireland, there weren't any step-downs there, so I would not rely on the airports.
