Muslims and Free Speech

Anyone watch it on Channel 4 last night? That guy who was arguing for free speech was awesome, unlike the other guy, whose argument seemed to be based around "We dont like people criticising us or mocking us, so you should stop."

That black guy who came on made me laugh. He had no serious answers so started going on about Bush and Blair, and shouting and pointing a lot. And came up with the quality line "what would you do if you if i slagged your mum."

Of course, it was a ridiculous to see that the audience was so heavily skewed in favour of Muslims and young lefties. There were very few older, white people in the audience. So when it came to the vote at the end, the result was totally irrelevant.

And Channel 4 wouldnt let the cartoons be shown. What a disgrace that was!

Free Speech. You can say what you like as look as you dont offend muslims,polish or anyone else who wants to come to this country and take over.

Didn't see that program. Probably a good thing as my sympathies swing back and forth so wildly on this sort of thing that I get travel sick.

Personally I reckon the reason there's so much conflict between muslims and the west is not that we are so different but that we are so similar. We've stomped around the world ruthlessly pursuing our self interest, and the Muslims object not so much because our behaviour is and has been immoral but rather because we've been so much more succesful at it than they have. Osama's just pissed off that its a spoilt rich american who runs the world rather than a spoilt rich Saudi. Whenever Muslims are in charge they treat minorities at least as badly as we have ever done in our various imperial adventures.

And people who happen to be Muslims are victimised in various ways (esp Palestine, Chechnya, Kashmir) but when I hear puffed-up muslim patriarchs trying to compare their suffering to the Holocaust I just want to shake them until they see sense or their heads fall off.

And Muslims have the right to wear veils and we have the right to dislike them doing so.

But there are certain people who dont want us to have that right to dislike them wearing veils, or the right to say so.

A Muslim woman came to my front door yesterday, I looked through the letter box and said "How do you like it?" :D

In many Muslim countries, non-muslim western women, be they Christians or educated, take the veil or otherwise modulate their outfitting, so as not to fly in the face of local custom, highly commendable, so surely, by the same token......? no?

I used to have a DRAMBUI with "Miss Afghanistan" in it. an absolute babe. all be it with a full on muff. Rocco blasted her big time.
