North Korea, Turkmenistan, Eritrea the worst violators of press freedom
http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=639 So basically European countries and the US allow less press freedom and developing countries with new democracy are surpassing some developed countries.
Before everyone goes off on a Bush/Blair bash job, keep in mind, a lot of the Press Freedom erosion is also in the name of Political Correctness.
Now, I'll join in in the bashup.
As an American journalist, I can guarantee you there is less freedom than there was 6 years ago. Is that Bush bashing? With elections next week, I can tell you that the vice president has compared press reportagerecently to what al qaeda would do, and that the press essentially supports terrorism. So, the equation here is "terrorists hate freedom. Press freedoms support terrorists.' You know what's next? No freedom for the press. If the republicans win this election, that's what happens. I never thought I'd see the day where the very press-restrictive British system actually seemed more promising for serious journalism than the US.
