mildly moronic career choice for someone who doesn't like elections if you don;t mind me saying.

You know, Steve, that's probably my single favourite post of yours EVER: pithy, on the ball, and without the use of techno-jargon or a single reference to some obscure microchip or other.
Keep 'em coming!!

Kinky is hilarious! Him and his cigar... hope he wins, that crazy guy. :)
Well...that's that...one vote for Kinky...nice that my precinct was using the school just a couple of miles over...
and NOBODY else was there to vote...lazy fcukers...or are they all at work???
I just got back from standing in line for an hour and twenty minutes, the voter turnout this year is huge. I suspect it has more to do with the "no gay marriage" amendment than who's running for what. I voted no to the amendment, btw (not comfortable about legislating morality, and it's hard once you know a few to say they shouldn't marry or what not). It wasn't too bad overall, I ran into a couple of old friends and had a nice conversation with an Indian gentleman who was in line in front of me ![]()
I live in one of the reddest of red states, however, so I'm sure my vote will not count. But at least I can bitch about how things turned out (don't come whining to me unless you put your ballot in there) ![]()

Maybe he'll run for President... ![]()
Me, I voted for a bunch of liberal stuff-- if it said "I hate America," I voted for it. ;)

True.
They sure are touchy about all those allegations of election fraud, aren't they? ![]()

Speaking of running for President, which Democrat do you think will win the Democratic nomination in'08? And, who will the running mate be?
Tex wrote: Speaking of running for President, which Democrat do you think will win the Democratic nomination in'08?
Probably the wrong one.
Tex wrote: And, who will the running mate be?
See above. ;)
there wasn't a line at my precinct, thank god. katherine harris, the devil-woman who was secretary of state in 2000 and helped bush steal florida, is running for senator but she's more than ten points behind our incumbent senator, bill nelson. we're using paper ballots, as well. i guess flori-duh has enough problems and using electronic voting machines would be the kiss of death. i voted all democrat as there wasn't a green to be seen on the ballot and i want them pesky republicans out of there.
jeff: good on you, voting for the texas jew boy! ![]()

The HBO documentary in question is up on Google Video:
It's a bit sensationalist and over the top (as they tend to be), but worth watching. It's quite disturbing what we've gotten ourselves into with electronic voting.

Good ol Kinky. He comes out here on a regular basis. I think i'd vote for him if I could.
My precinct is only 5 min. away from my apartment. I went there after classes. Couldn't believe it's raining all day today. Anyway, the polling station was not crowded at all. I was the 117th voter according to the machine.
All I can say is, I'm young and I'm proud that I have voted (second time now). ![]()

It's raining here today too! ![]()
Should clear up by end of May. :)
Karma on the rain.
Believe it or not, it will be very warm this weekend.
Now, back to the topic... I couldn't wait for the results. ![]()

I voted for "I Hate America." Then I sang the Macarena... :D
It's raining here too, which shouldn't be so odd as I'm one state over from ya, Cozzy. ![]()
So I have one question for you: when can I crash on your couch and consume all the Pringles you have in your room while watching Jerry Springer? :D
As for the results...I got burned in '04, but the Daily Show might make for intentionally amusing coverage. I don't think the Dems will win much at least in my part of the country (nothing brings out the kooks like "God, Guns, and Gays"), but I could be wrong ![]()
Well, no duh that the two Carolinas are experiencing rain. It's been a while since I have last watched Jerry Springer...
However, I think it's better to meet in a UNC v. Clemson basketball game... :D
I do not watch Jon Stewart or the Colbert Report. The only way I can decide is to watch some C-SPAN, if I can...
Taboo # 7 wrote: the Daily Show might make for intentionally amusing coverage.
Jon Stewart is v. cool. I'll be watching the Daily Show for election coverage, that's for certain. ![]()

Should've added it's been raining all weekend as well, sure glad I don't live in Tillamook. Thank you for cheering me up with your second line; as Homer sez "It's funny cuz it's true".
We've got mail-in ballots here, I just returned from the county courthouse half an hour ago after delivering mine.

well when I get to be important enough, I'll hopefully not have to deal with the public and will sit in the office :) hahahahhaha

Politics is very very local, and unfortunately, you can't blame the whole of the party or even the state parties for that kind of shit. It's a bunch of fucking Bubbas doing what they think is the right thing to do without checking in on anyone first.
I had a Democrat do that one me in '05 when he sent out a press release about how a minister shouldn't be elected into office, ignoring the constitutional right of anyone who run for office and calling it a violation of church and state seperations, which legally it isn't even close--infact writing a law to keep a minister out of office simply because he is a minister is a violation of church and state seperations--but I digress. I agreed with the guy, but he sent out a press release about it--to a black community of 2800 people with 5 friggin churches. The way he did it as well, just smelled of hate speech and we lost.
The party didn't back him no one else backed him--and I know that's the case with these retarded robo calls. They've been getting away with murder for so long they don't even know it's illegal--because everything is so localised.

FFS, what happened?
Basically starting at about 5:30am I started going to the polling places to set up lawn signs for my candidate at polling places around the district so that I can get to my town (where I'm in charge of the dem party) and make sure everything was ok by 6:30.
I was almost done when I went to the next closest polling place to my town, to drop off signs. This was 6:15 and a republican poll worker was setting up the machines and fiddling in the back. I told him that I was vice chair of his town's dem party (which I am) and that he had to stop. When I went to get his name he started screaming at me and telling me to get the fuck out.
I called our lawyers, and they weren't there yet--because god forbid Hippy democrats get ready for anything early. So I called the board of elections, which actually IS corrupt not just "omg they are run by republicans" corrupt that most people say just because something is run by republicans. I had hoped they'd back me up. I spoke to the solicitor who told me to mind my own business and to not split hairs because 6:20 is almost 6:30. That did confirm that 630 was the right time tho.
So I called the cops so they'd stop it. By the time the cops came the precincts judge of election and the poll worker had pushed me off of the premises. I called the cops again adding assault to my complaint, and then I went home because now I was seriously late. I was also worried because my town has a large black community and I was worried if the white people were pushing white people out in a white neighborhood what would happen to the blacks at home.
So the police called me back and told me I had to go to the municipal building in the town I was pushed in--on election day WHEN IT'S FUCKING CLOSED. I said I was assaulted and I'm not going to leave my polls so that there's no democrats there. So the police came to my town, and took my statement. They said they couldn't arrest the two who shoved me because they didn't witness it and the poll workers denied it, but THE STATEMENT OF THE POLL WORKERS SAID THAT I WAS GIVING THEM TROUBLE BECAUSE THEY WERE SETTING UP BEFORE 630 AM.
FUCKING IDIOTS!! Thank you I'll be taking you to election court as well you fucking retards.
Again, like i said...this isn't any grand instruction from any party. These are 70 year old men with nothing better to do who weren't going to be told by a young girl how to do a job that they've been doing longer than I've been alive. They're set in their ways. They don't know any better, because of the corruption on top, no one ever told them what they were doing is wrong.
