THIS COULD BE ROTTERDAM OR AMSTERDAM

booked my flight to amsterdam on thursday 23 rd nov.feyn v blackburn.1 night rotterdam then friday night amsterdam. anyone know what rotterdam is like? whats the best strip joint in amsterdam?

Been to Rotterdam a couple of times (though only for a few hours) in the last year or so; I was there ten days ago. On arrival you'll probably hate it. The most seemingly run down and depressed town I'd ever visited (including Sunderland and Hull) was my humble opinion when coming in on the coach from the ferry port, all grey concrete postwar buildings (bar a few Victorian terraces which look like they belong in Brooklyn). Can't comment on nightlife but it isn't as touristy as Amsterdam (supposedly) is. Nieuwe Binneweg (go down from the station and take the 2nd or something street on the right) has a record shop called "De Plaatboef" where you can get rid of a few Euros and numerous cafés where you can supposedly get better quality for less than in Amsterdam (as there aren't as many tourists to fleece). You'll think it's a shithole at first but it's grown on me and I now like it, has the feeling of a proper cosmopolitan City (you can tell I haven't travelled much). You can lose yourself walking around town and I found it to be quite a friendly and welcoming place even if it doesn't seem so on first impressions.

thanks for your insight ycfc where did you stay?.its a pity i only get a night in rotterdam and some of that time i'll be at the match,probally hit the nightlife after the game though.sounds like it will be cheaper than dam.getting much more time the day and night after that in amsterdam

I'd stayed the night before with a family on a 6th form exchange in a town just inside the German border and I stayed the night on the ferry back to Hull! I just had a few hours in Rotterdam between my train arriving and the bus to the port. Would have liked to go up Euromast but never had the time (or the Euros as I'd squandered them all on CDs and DVDs!)

Best strip club in The Dam? Red. Light. District.

try the delights of a canal boat ride.

ride a bike in the park. and take a packed lunch. Have a look at Ann Frank's former abode. play field hockey with the local youths. play some chess. and stay in your hotel room instead of going out every night. Dutch TV is fantastic. The Dam as many people like to call it, is not all about Drugs and Prostitution. there are many many more cultural aspects to the city.

Walk. Ride a bike. take a canal ride. AND ENJOY!!!

thought about all that and its tempting,but i have decided to just get pissed for 48 hours with 3,000 others

I hired a bike and did a lot of walking and had some space cake and wandered around the red light district and had a loads of beers and indulged in some shennagins with a woman.

PS if you head down Warmoesstraat about 150yards from Dam Square there's a bar on the left with loads of big screens and the bar staff are very easy on the eye.
