O/T - Fugazi

Anyone else out there a fan of Fugazi as well? Just tracked down "The Argument", which is great. I'm guessing it's pretty unlikely, as they don't have a lot in common with our heros, except they have (or in NO's case, HAD) maintained integrity in the music 'industry'... CTB

ME, ME, ME0thanks to an old ex! I haven't gotten any recent albums by them, but I need to! I love their old stuff!

One of my all time favourite bands thats for certain matey! I could go on forever about why I love this lot so passionately - and Ian' MacKay's one of the most sussed and hardworking blokes I've ever read about (but never met, I hasten to add... :( ), so I have nothing but admiration for their whole ethic, and they way they play the whole thing completely on their own terms - like keeping the prices of their gigs and records low and not let some shitty capitalist major label rodger them from the back... They will never be the biggest "alternative"rock act in the world but I'm sure that's the last thing that keeps them awake at night. They're just massively influential in my eyes. Funnily enough, the year I got into them (1992) was also the year I became aware of a soundalike band from virtually my own doorstep - Leatherface!!! So that meant two brilliant bands I could become inspired and enthralled by!

Favourite records of theirs has to be "Repeater" and "In On The Kill Taker". "Thirteen Songs" was actually the first record of theirs I actually bought, then I started working my way through their catalogue. I was so obsessed I didn't realise that in 1994 I bought "Red Medicine" TWICE!!....about six weeks apart!! I couldn't believe it when "..Kill Taker" did so well in the UK album charts - it was the last thing I ever expected from such an uncompromising band!!

I'm glad we still have bands like this around. In fact, they piss all over New Order....oops...hope I haven't upset anyone there!

Piss all over New Order? I doubt it! I couldn't name anything they did apart from those mentioned and then only because you lot did!

I met Ian and Guy Picciotto, both were really nice guys! I had the pleasure of talking to Guy for a few minutes! If you like Fugazi, you may want to check out a band called Jawbox-they were on Dischord Records, and did an amazing cover of "Something Must Break." :D

I need to check them out - I've read so much about them but heard so little - all the albums I can get hold of pretty easily as none have been deleted. I'll go along with you Kim and Hubert there above's gushing enthusiasm for the band as a prompt for me to give them some belated attention....

With all the talk about drinking and alcohol on this forum, I somehow doubt that there are any straight edgers among us .. Is Ian still straight edge ?

funny, i'm listening to fugazi (a song called suggestion) on some internet radio station winamp picks up...and they're not as noisey and annoying as i thought they'd be. aren't they a hardcore punk band? i'd never liked that genre.

The amount of responses here makes me feel a bit better about loving these guys - I got into them via a mixed tape from an ex also, and when I heard Waiting Room, Bulldog Front and Latin Roots, it nearly blew my head off. In fact, they are the only other band other than JD/NO that I consider truly indispensible. While they do have their roots in US Hardcore/Punk, they have drifted considerably from that to .....um, well nothing can describe it, really. Avant-garde/Dub/Punk/Funk? Probably not. Just track down "The Argument" "Red Medicine" and "End Hits" and tell me I'm lying! CTB

Aye, CTB, it's always good to see that other people too can get so passionate about one of the bands they all happen to love isn't it?? Mind you - ain't got their newest one yet - the record shops round here aren't quite that cultured or discerning unfortunately - but that's only a matter of time.... ;)

Just been checking out various articles on the band on the net, plus Southern Distributions official homepage with a revealing and in-depth interview with Ian MacKaye circ 1999.... Must admit, I'm now very intrigued to hear them properly.... any of you folks recommend some good sites where I can at least download any MP3s of their stuff? CandyB? Hubey? FrootiKim? Tried searching for some but I'm just getting lots of general music sites which probably require you to register for a fee before getting any choice downloads...

CTB, since you like Fugazi, I thought that I would recommend a a band for you to check out! I think they have that DC sound. Their name is Cursive. I think they are awesome. I just picked up the CD called Burst and Bloom tonight! Fell in love with it immediately!
