Moving House

I once read in a 'quality broadsheet' that moving house was the third most stressful things most adults in Britain will do after having children and getting divorced. I have done neither of these latter two things but moving house (again) is DOING MY FUCKING NUT IN.

Is this just me?

what's stressful about it? is it the moving or all of the "selling one place/breaking one lease and finding another place stuff"?

I find the actual finding a new place thing horrible, but the moving itself isn't that bad.

It's everything from having to deal with bastard Estate Agents to looking for a new place (though that bit's done, thank fuck) and having to move all your shit from one place to another while trying to start a new job at the same time and then not being able to find all your shit (MOST OF WHICH IS ESSENTIAL TO SAID NEW JOB) cos it's all in ten million fucking boxes.......

I think the dealing with estate agents bit would do my head in.Still in my first house (5 years now) so not had the hassle of selling/finding a new one/moving yet

HAving had several divorces........MOVING house is BLOODY stressful and can nearly make the money i LOST in divorce settlements seem TRIVIAL.REcently offered £30k LESS for house than what it is valued at.Hell i wish i had MOVED already but still struggling with all this but now with the added BONUS of having NO job.Still worse things happen at the BLOBSHOP!

The day I moved was horrible. The property developer who bought mine was an arrogant tosser and I came bloody close to decking him.

The estate agents were shysters. Totally overvalued my place. Never go with the one who values it the most or who is pushing a job lot of ex MOD property.

Still unpacking 7 months later. We only found out afterwards that the gas an electric were on a prepayment meter. So we ran out of all power on the Sunday of the end of May bank holiday and we weren't back to normal until the Thursday.

I would actually recommend that you get a Corgi registered engineer to check the system out. The male party of the couple who we bought from was a Corgi registered engineer but the system was failed by British Gas for not having a vent in the lounge (we have a back boiler) which has been illegal since last December. There was an air feed under the boiler which was outlawed 5 years ago and the flue in the loft wasn't sealed to the roof line so products of combustion were leaking into the loft which led to our boiler being switched off the week before Xmas.

If the bloke who owned ours wasn't Corgi registered I'd have had a check done but presumed he's have done things right in his own home.

It took months to pack all our gear, the removal firm totally under estimated the amount of stuff we have and didn't send enough people along. Thankfully the smaller truck they were going to use had a brake problem so they brought the bigger one which we filled to overflowing.

Moving house is a shit laugh,without a doubt,but that's all.. I've always wondered why they call it the third most stressful time in a person's life...Do me a favour. Mind,they'll have to carry me out in a box next time,cos like fuck do I need that pantload of housestress..

Moving sucks big time, especially when you're married to a pack rat. My husband insists on collecting sets of encyclopedias, so the last 6 times we've moved, I've had to lift 13 sets of encyclopedias. We just bought our first house and I told him that we're not moving again EVER. They'll find our cold, dead, wrinkled bodies in this house. Under sets of encyclopedias, no doubt.....

On the two occasions i've moved house i have to say i enjoyed it. It may depend on why you move i suppose. Both times for its been because im 'bettering' myself,moving to a better bigger house. Although,maybe because i spend so much time NOT at home i dont get the stress part.

We will have to do it in the next three months... Well, it will be a real relief to leave this house, but the financial aspect is very stressful... And to invest what costs your house, you have to sell it first... Where to go meanwhile ?

When I moved into my house (as a first time buyer), the whole process was stress free as I had a mortgage ready and wasn't in a chain. I had only basic furniture so the moving itself was done with the help of friends. As it was the first place I owned I loved it.

I'm planning to move later this year and I'm sure it will be an absolute nightmare.

No,i just moved house not so long ago,and could only use me car,so fecking loads of trips here and there..

Moving's not the greatest thing in my book, but one part that I don't like is being reminded of how heavy vinyl records can be.
