I know all that Jeff. I'm talking about a possible snowball effect the Poster Boy may have..MLS will be on Sky TV over here next year without a shadow of a doubt.Beckham still has the midus touch and will remain Front page news over here for a few years yet, regardless of him being a squeaky voiced doyle IMO Look at the money involved, our media love this shit...Not saying it will happen, just a thought some of the Prems top players get to thinking..All depends on the interest generated in MLS by this move,I know..But if it's as successful as this gamble is trying to be,it could open the floodgates..Then again you all like rounders better just now.

Not a good advert for the Beautiful Game though, unless you're a face-painting happy clappy tw&t.
Considering that his less fashionable peers Scholes, Giggs (actually, no, he's probably no less fashionable, just never bigged himself up like Brand Beckham (or his Mrs?) did) and Neville are all still doing it at the very highest levels, whereas Beckham himself hasn't even won (I believe) a single trophy in 4 years now and you begin to wonder about his true worth..
Be interesting to see how it pans out for him, mind.. .
Beckham?
The biggest overrated tosspot (since Gazza) who dresses like a bird (Andy Goram did too, Gazza just beat them up) and plucks his eyebrows. Gettae fcuk and don't come back.
Cunt.

If Football lifts off over there, which it probably won't because as we all know Beckham is trading on his image now rather than football brilliance that he never really had to begin with..I don't think he can sustain that for too long. But the figures the yanks throw about will turn the heads of the Cashley Coles back home if it does somehow lift off we could have an exedus, much like the best Dutch players fuck off to the rich leagues, I think greed would come into the game even more..What would they compete in though in America? The Totally Awesome Dude Cup! It would be very shite for our game Al.Let's hope it all goes tits up.

Taking off the tinted glasses. He was good, could have been great, had he not crippled himself trying to break someone else's leg.
Never said he was great, never said he fulfilled his potential.Never indicated anything about the dickhead's character.I said he was quality at footy, proper! ![]()
You arnt going to send me that clobber now are you?(Calzaghe Norton V Ali DVD's etc, remember??)just coz I said Gazza was proper beaut at footy ![]()
Just goes to show how things have to be bigger and better in the US. Victoria might actually be a star in a couple of years, after all a WAG isn't a profession...
This does not surprise me at all. The MLS owners had approved that one player could be exempted from their strict and very low salary cap. It was even called "The Beckham Rule"!!
They have basically a nice minor league, in terms of attention, in The States. Becks is overrated but The MLS types see the media blitz. Do you think any other player would get the big headlines he does??
so The Becks and Posh Dog & Pony show will do LA. Celebrity and chav heaven.
Every now and then, American sports get owners who think they are being visionary by throwing far more money at players than they are worth. The owner of the Galaxy (and most of MLS) Philip Anschutz is worth gazillions, so he probably thinks it all makes sense thru marketing and co-branding and t.v. money, and that people all over the country will suddenly forget about baseball and start watching soccer. If Pele couldn't make soccer a huge sport in the US (and he and the Cosmos were astoundingly popular) than no way Beckham will. Soccer's popular enough here, but I think MLS screwed up when DC United was the dominant team (with John Harkes and a bunch of still-decent stars) and than split them up to create parity in the league - you need one great organization to get people to care about a league - look at the Yankees and the Tokyo Giants in baseball, the NZ All-Blacks in rugby, the Celtics in bnasketball, Man. U. - MLS is just medicore throughout, and Beckham won't change that. The U.S.' lame showing the world cup didn't help either.
And who has the last laugh? Beckham. For an average Premiership footballer he's done incredibly well for himself. He may be as thick as pigshit but he knows when and how to listen to good advice. His missus and her advisers have got a lot to answer for!
Similar, but much lower standard, is how come Jade Goody is a millionaire? Which twats have bought into the gutter culture? We pay taxes for that thing to breathe!

No quite, Tim. Unless buying "heat" constitutes stealth taxation these days!!

I think he's more well liked in the US than Beckham.. and he doesn't look like a poofter more concerned with his hair so more people will respect him. He's also got a hard name.
Larsson for NY REDBULL!

it will not bring more people to the matches tho!
soccer is for fags and girls in this country which is why it's not popular. Nothing to do with non-stop play and commercials--they got around that for bastketball and they would figure out at way for soccer too. People (white working class salt of the earth types) will not stop seeing soccer as a sport for fags and girls if some faggy english pretty boy comes over.
It'll be the same (ex) frat boys and high school girls in the stands that's there now.

hahaha oh my god are you a footballer now? "we" I'm saying that's what the view in this country is.
I'm also like one of the biggest fans of european football that you'll ever meet in this country. I'm just saying what the perception is
David and Victoria really don´t care, they will feel very fine in LA because they'll be in the atmosphere they like..
the same thing happend with Juan Pablo Montoya...from formula 1 to nascar...all in life is for the money : banghead: ![]()

As incredible as it might seem, it is lifting. Since the World Cup in the US, the young americans practice "soccer" a lot more, and the US national team is doing well.
I'm not saying it will get the same popularity as the other major sports in the US, I mean, baseball and american football have been there for so long, basketball as well, it will be difficult, but due to the massive invasion of new comers in the last years in North America, it's getting more and more popular.
Want a proof? In montreal we have a team of the 2nd division of the MLS (the A league), and the stadium is packed at each and every game, they are building a brand new stadium now... and believe me, there were more people in this packed stadium (still, it's only 10K people) than in average at the Expos (Major League Baseball) before they left the city!
And not to count how many people were in the streets after each game in the world cup....
You would have never seen that 10 years ago!
And we have the U20 tournament in Montreal this year...!
A mate at work reckons the team David Girlham has signed for, get 65,000 sellouts every game. Is this true? That's a shit load of face paint, and he's not even there yet..What sort of wages do the other lesser lights command in the MLS at present?Anyone know? I would have thought the top European leagues still pay more at this time,Beckham apart...whose wages at least triple the likes of Schevchenko,Ballack et al.

Gazzilions is right. Quoted as DBeckham getting not earning 1 million $US/ week.
Celtics and Larry Bird. Short by standards white Guy drew a passion..
DB was over house hunting months back so not sure how this Tsunamied like this. If it might mean the in a year or two he'll change his focus and get funds set + working towards youth and under 20s then hats off.
The Dutch players chasing the $ is down the ego clash. Of course KNVB too much talent, like Clockwork, and not enough room on the pitch. Of course.
A rather bitter, damning article about beckham in todays Telegraph said that the standard of 'soccer' that Becks will be playing in is akin to the English league 2 / conference. He will also be playing in the same league as Terry Cooke. Terry used to play for Man City when we were in the old english third division and we were crap....... Nice to see that the cream always rises to the top.......
