Aberdeen if they don't isolate that platform, surely the whole pipeline network will vent out the shattered rig.
I trust they telling the rig crew to bail into the escape boats?
They've got them all off by helecopter and now they're all waiting for the big TWATT sound.
The risers will be alright - there's subsurface safety valves that will all be tightly closed by now. They might lose all the gas in the pipeline to the shore but they will have vented all the pressure off so it will just fill with water if it breaks.
Edit: and it's nowhere near Aberdeen, it's off the Yorkshire coast.
So hands up who didn't know that Yorkshire had a coast. Now keep your hand up if you didn't know there were gas platforms there.
I knew both, I just didn;t know the output came ashore there.
I think with regards to the pipeline I was thinking back to piper Alhpa, but then it went BOOM before anyone could turn anything off. I remember there was a lot of talk of it burning up the contents of the pipes, and I seem to recall the whole piper field ( and whole north sea?) was offline for a while afterwards?
If not, well that's years of smoking weed for ya.
PS, there's a few rigs between here and liverpool, not sure if they are oil or gas. So hands up who didn't know there were rigs in the paddypond?
PPS, how they don;t get rammed all the time I am at a loss to explain, it's a busy bit of sea and not known for ease of navigation
Lerds of gas platforms in Liverpool Bay. I think all the Oirish ones are gas too. Only Scotland has the black stuff as far as I know.
There's a 500m exclusion zone around all installations. That area is patrolled by a boat which will ward off anyone who strays in. They'll ram you out of the way, if necessary. They're not going to do much with a big bastard like that, especially not in high seas.

Fuckin RAF Air Sea boys are a breed apart, that's NOT whirly bird weather.
Course it is. They'll be normal civvy choppers. They can fly in all sorts of shite weather. Probably still serving the in-flight coffee too

What happened?
Why couldn't the people on the ship steer it?
Did it hit the rig?
If it hit the rig did it make a TWAT sound?
Did the ship or the rig win?
Was anybody hurt?

no doubt that the gas platform will win...cleaning up the mess is what will be the worst of it.
