i do know a little about security clearances and have gone referee on a few as well.
have i got this right, a reference you are to give asks where your mum is born?
btw, it probably isn't a good idea to raise your vetting concerns in a public forum. those security places can get a bit touchy about these things.

no that is not right. it sounds more like a privacy act issue, whatever your equivalent is called, though.
for example when i worked in social security, nobody, including me was allowed to read my own customer file and it was taken off the shelves.
you can then bet that that is not the only information of yours, which is not of their concern, that is being read by your co-workers.
i'd raise the privacy issues somewhere in your organisation. however you go about it, it won't make you popular.
still you were right to inform the vetting office.
See cos it's a government form, I suspect it's one of those "remains the property of her maj at all times" deals.
There are things I definitely CAN'T post here, that would destroy my employer and send all their govt contracts elsewhere. One day they will piss me off too much........
