Gigs I would have gone to, but didn't...

1. Jimi Hendrix, probably spring of 1970 in San Jose. My friends were going, but my mother wouldn't let me go with them, because she thought they were a bad influence. She was right. She told me I could go see him "next time." Well, he died on September 18, 1970, so there was no "next time." I reminded her about this for years, until she finally told me "It wasn't my fault he died." She was right again.

2)The Last Waltz, at Winterland in San Francisco, Thanksgiving Day, 1976. I originally planned to go, but because it was on Thanksgiving Day, I decided to stay home and spend the day with my family instead. Those who attended were served Thanksgiving dinner, followed by the concert, which included an all-star lineup, all filmed by Martin Scorcese.

3. The Sex Pistols' first appearance in San Francisco. Exactly 28 years ago today, coincidentally, on January 14, 1978. I originally planned to go, but I had been going to so many shows at Winterland, I was feeling a bit tired, so I decided to pass this one up and see them the next time around. As it turned out, this was the last Sex Pistols show; Johnny Rotten left the band three days after this show, which resulted in the dissolution of the band.

New Order, Tinely Park, IL July 29th or 30th, 1993. Son born on the 27th thus family obligations....just found the tickets yesterday!

New Order Argon Theatre, Chicago 2005. Two of our automobiles took $1000 shits on us days prior....fookers

1. Smashing Pumpkins Adore tour. I was 14 and my mother told me I would get hurt and lose my hearing at a concert. Or, my other option would be to have her go with me.

2. New Order, the last New York show. I had an exam the next day and was pretty much broke, so it's self explanatory.

3. Billy Corgan. I missed his solo tour, even though his solo album was kind of dull, because of work.

4. Pet Shop Boys. They played in Boston and I was 2 hours away in Hartford, without enough money for a ticket to get to Boston.

I could have seen Hooky twice in like 5 months (Sept. 05 and January 06) at The Ottobar in Baltimore but was very broke both times. I could not even afford a drink!!!

Live 8. But the line up was shit.

1. New order Republic tour - Made the stupid mistake of letting the GF hold the tickets. We broke up two days before the concertand she went without me.

2. New Order WFTSC tour - was in Iraq, had just left

3. Smashing Pumpkins MC tour - Stood in line for tickets for 8 hours, got to thewindow and the concert had sold out about 4 people ahead of me.

4. Social Distortion - Wife refused to go withme, couldn't find anyone who wanted to go, and didn't feel like going by myself.

U2's first tour of the U.S., same story. When I tried to drum up some interest in going to see U2, a friend said "I don't want to go see those fags." This was before they became popular, mind. The same friend would have gone to see them once they hit it big here. My cousin did see them at some small club on Market street in San Francisco for $3.

And another one: Area One. I was originally planning to go, but when I found out it was out in the middle of nowhere, I changed my mind, couldn't be arsed. I still haven't seen New Order...

The Who, ten years or so ago (the Quadrophenia tour), I went to the beach with my family instead. I was sixteen at the time, the only Who fan in my social group, couldn't drive yet, and missed out on seeing at least the original 3/4s of the group together onstage

NEW ORDER changed to playing at READING from somewhere CLOSER to me in 1998.I couldn't make NEW arragements and so missed them. Had two tickets to see THE VERVE in the next town WIGAN.Think it was called HAIGH HALL.At last minute i was let down by my mate and so SOLD the tickets.Still it's a bittersweet SYMPHONY...that's LIFE!

i was in toronto in summer 2003 and had a ticket to see radiohead in the ampetheatre down the harbour.all the power went in that part of north america and it was cancelled

1. Hooky at the OttoBar last year. I couldn't find a way to go to Baltimore. The only Hooky gig that was legal for me to go to.

2. Ladytron at some club in Asheville. I was somewhere else.

The Portland debuts of a few bands that caught my attention back before I turned 21: Madness at some heavy-metalish bar on the east side, circa 1980, Television at the Earth Tavern a little bit before that, Echo And The Bunnymen at Luis' La Bamba, and some band called U2 at a bar called the Foghorn, before the first album I think (and well before God morphed into Bono). All missed because I wasn't 21 yet.

Confession time: first time Simple Minds were to play in Portland, for New Gold Dream, a couple of friends and I bought tickets to see them. I think a grand total of 15 were sold, so the show was canceled . Yes, I still liked the Minds up till that album (still do, for the most part)

GREEN- so did i and wasn't really bothered when they become a STADIUM band.So great songs in their day.Still own i CD album and have one of the original CD singles in gatefold cardboard sleeve which was very ON THE CUTTING edge at that time.Lovely
