Music Question

I'm listening to a song that I want to learn the bass lines to...and I was wondering if there was software that could lift away the vocal and drums,etc...in order to hear what the bass lines are. I'm sure there is such a thing, I just don't know where to look. Anyone know???

I'm afraid you cannot unmix a song anymore than you can unbake a cake.

There are applications that will remove vocals, but they work by the principle that vocals are usually panned to the centre, utilizing phase cancellation ( moving the left channel 180degrees out of phase with the right) to remove the vocal. However, Basses are also pretty much always panned centrally too, and in fact usually have even less of a stereo component than vocals, so that even though the software may try and avoid the bass frequency range, the likliehood is that anything that gets rid of the voice will mangle the bass and drums too.

Maybe you could use a timestretcher to slow the tune down to half speed without changing the pitch, that would make it easier to learn.

Find out what the chords are and then listen to the bassline from there. Usually, the bass is playing the lowest note in the chord.
