I have a freeview box in my attic and want to put it in my bedroom. Can you use these with portable ariels or does it need to be connected to the proper ariel socket?

Anybody know?

Proper roof fitted only, doubt the signal would be strong enough with a coat hanger!

You need as good a signal as you can get. Try it, it might work.

I have a good ariel in my bedroom though, it's one that has it's own power supply - should I try it?

My mate has the same set-up and it works a treat.

Want me to come and set it up for you?

I'll manage thanks :thumb:

Try it Jem. I tried to get them in our 3 bedrooms, one in each, recently. Non starter though. You need at least 80% signal. A lad I know said he'll install the lot properly, with roof ariel for 80 sovs...Not that bothered yet.Got Sky downstairs.

good thread.

I've got a spare Sky Digi box, remote, viewing card, scart etc.

Can I plug it in to my spare telly upstairs? So it's like a freeview.

(Channels 1 to 5, and that bleeding Welsh S4C one are burning my head out)

Got to be connected to the dish though surely? Stanley Dock market best place for you Jak,i of all people shouldn't encourage you but there's a fella there sells the chipped cards (sky),or bypass boxes (ntl).

You cannot watch seperate channels that way though. What's on in one room has to be on in the other, unless you are just watching terrestrial on one, and Sky on the other. Can't watch 2 seperate Sky channels.Must just be on a loop...

You will need to connect the mystery sky box direct to the dish. The problem is there is only one socket for this, unless you already have multiroom in, in which case there are 4 sockets on the dish. You could do this with a splice job, using common or garden terminal blocks, however, coaxial cable is A> coaxial for a good reason, and B. a total and complete cunt to work with, especially if you cause it to be non coacial in your efforts.

Hicksy, you should get a great freeview signal up stairs in your house.

I can't wait to get home and try, I'll update you tomorrow :thumb:

Oh and I've got the toughest portable telly in the world, I tripped over the wire yesterday and it smashed glass first onto the floor from a high unit. I picked it up and it's still working perfectly. Good eh?

So if i phone up Sky and have my Digital package switChed off what channels will i still recieve through the box? I heard i'll still be able to get stuff like E4 ,BBC3

dunno about E4 and all, I seem to recall you get the 5 terrestrials+ all the useless shite ones that show adverts all day.
