Have just watched them get bowled out in a one day game for 111 at the Adelaide Oval in perfect conditions. Australia are just going in for the kill now at 1/104. Glad I didn't pay the money to go to the game.

Makes you wonder how England won the Ashes in the last series - or how Australia lost them?!

We're letting paedophiles escape prison sentences, people from all over the world enter our borders illegally and your moaning about the cricket?

:brow:

Well, not moaning actually - I love watching Australia win while half of Africa is starving and Osama is planning his next terrorist attack. :ignore:

there's no cricket nets or pitches in schools. except maybe the posh ones. So kids don't play it. that's the real problem.

and where's all the indoor cricket centres that Oz has loads of. none near me.

I don't think they care anymore. We certainly don't care over here what they get up to in Australia! I don't think anyone takes as much interest in the one-dayers as they do the Ashes, including the players!

Minority sport at the end of the day.

People only really care about the international game, and even then they're not 'that' bothered. Certainly little interest amongst most people I know at County level. Actually, sorry, not 'little' interest - no interest whatsoever.

Too many "big names", too much media hype and not enough concentration on doing the basics properly. Sorry, I was thinking about the football team, but it does apply to cricket as well!

Yeah, and we all give a shit about Bowls and Darts

And don't forget we had one of the best snooker players in the world in Eddie Charlton.

Edddie Charlton?... the slowest snooker player EVER. He only won occasionally cos his opponents fell asleep or drank too much.

Pot Black used to have to extend the programme every time he was on it.

One can hope.

It would be good to get some real cracking games again like the days with Marsh, Botham, Lillee, Knott etc - the characters have certainly disappeared from the game.

One of the key differences down here is that traditionally cricket's been the only game that unites the entire country. Interest levels are sky high. Only at the highest level, mind.

Winters sports carve the country up. AFL's problem is that we can never have a national team (well, other than the annual dismembering of the Irish in the hybrid game), while no one gives a rat's ass about rugby league outside of NSW and Queensland (because the game sucks, frankly), and although more get behind the Wallabies and Super 14, it's still second fiddle in most states. Soccer's the big mover but has a huge way to go to compete with the other three. Plus it carries all this divisive ethnic baggage.

Got the feeling in England that unlike football, involvement in cricket was partly a 'class'-related issue. Here it's well and truly 'all walks of life' stuff.

Their grammar/spelling are woeful and they are xenophobic fantasists! :)

But worst of all; their bands are so pumped full of drugs they can't even hold a tune.

(no, seriously...)

Sorry, but how does anyone actually compare snooker to actual sport? It's like if they showed poker on ESPN...oh wait. :ignore:
