let me just reiterate. most people who go for a swim. for that matter go bushwalking, here live.

Not just that, but great whites don't attack people with the intention of eating them. They usually attack for only a few reasons:

  1. they are lost and scared as they don't normally come anywhere near shore and the shock from the waves disorients them.

  2. Its a female who is either pregnant or just gave birth, and feels like she is protecting her territory/babies

  3. They mistaken a surfer who, on their board, looks like a seal from under the water.

Great whites don't like the flavor of us, fortunately, usually take one bit and swim off. If people die its usually from blood loss.....which is why you never swim alone.

But again like Ron stated, shark attacks are rare.
