Milli Vanilli film to be made Universal Pictures developing motion picture about duo 5 hours ago A film chronicling the rise and fall of pop duo Milli Vanilli is in the pipeline.

Universal Pictures are developing a picture about the pair, who were stripped of a Grammy award after it emerged that they had never actually sung on any of their records.

The film has had the backing of former member Fabrice Morvan and the estate of Rob Pilatus, who passed away in 1998.

Writer and director Jeff Nathanson, who is attached to the project, said: "I've always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you have guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 millions singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing stocks of pop entertainment."

Nathanson has previously written the film 'Catch Me If You Can'.

Milli Vanilli had a string of hits in the late 80s, including 'Girl You Know It's True'. They won the Grammy for Best Newcomer in 1990. However, they lost it after it was revealed that neither member had actually sung on the track. Instead, the vocals were recorded by session singers.

Pilatus died of a drug and alcohol overdose in a hotel room in Germany in 1998, reports the BBC

This raises an interesting question: will the actors portraying Rob and Maurice have to lip-sync the songs that Rob and Maurice lip-synced to, or will they have to sing the songs that Milli V. lip-synced to begin with

Paradox :p

Agreed, I played that record thin before they mentioned the scandal. Take away the lip syncing stupidity and it really is a good album.:ignore:

The funniest bit was when they appeared on stage and sang live, just to prove that they could.

And, err, they couldn't.

Didn't know one of them was dead though. So in addition to not being able to sing, he couldn't take his drugs either.

I bet he got depressed because they thought people were laughing at them for miming to songs.

What we were actually laughing at was their stupid clothes and make-up.

I don't think I'll be rushing out to see this one.
