I watch a lot of BBC News and these bonkers names have been making me smirk for a while now...

I can't believe you missed Damian Grammaticus.

LBC used to have some memorably named travel and weather people. I wonder if its an advantage if you are looking to be noticed/remembered and are stuck in one of those minor posts. Presumably its what The Day Today was getting at with the likes of Collaterly Sisters (financial correspondant I think).

That Emerton Fox looks like another clear case of nepotism.. Their Michael J. must have pulled a few stings getting him on the telly.

Went to Uni with him. Sound lad, he was president of our Student's Union for a bit. Er, and the All Night Party soc, if remember rightly? Had dreads back then though.

Not really a funny name though, is it? It's just foreign. Which he is.

That was also my take when I first saw this thread and I can't help but think that it's slightly ironic we're getting a "look at how stupid these names are" from someone who at one time accused the rest of the board of being bigots.

Into playground pointing a bit this thread isn't it?

I edited out most of the names that are just plain foreign sounding... There's plenty of silly UK names in here and there's plenty of piss taking of celebrities on NOOL.

I never accused the 'rest of the board of being bigots'. That's total bollocks.

Not really seeing the link between taking the piss out of celebs themselves and the names of anonymous looking BBC reporters? The only one I've ever found amusing is Brian O'Hanrahanrahan from The Day Today.

My mistake! It was hooligan homophobes :thumb:

Again Craig, why do you care? You live in New Zealand.

And we all know that Ally is the very epitome of 21st century hatred, bigotry and racism. :skeptic:

According to Keith Chegwin on Extras, the BBC used to be run by Gays & Jews.

We get BBC world in NZ you know... and living in NZ doesn't mean losing interest in the rest of the world... That's like saying NO should have no fanbase outside of England.

The weatherman Tomasz Schaffernacher (is that Czech? Or Polish?) always makes me think of that old Apache Indian song Boom Shakalack. I wonder if he got nicknamed Boom Schaffernack at school?

On the subject of memorable names, what's the origin of the name of that General Petraeus who's now in charge in Iraq? He sounds like he should be in charge of a Roman legion (maybe in an Asterix book - one small village still holds out against the invaders...hmmm...not that I'd want to compare mad bomber insurgents with Asterix).

The BBC is full of Oxbridge / Communists / and every minority group there is. If you went to the local proddy comp you have no chance.

I know someone with a strange name who works for the BBC.

He's Greek though, so under the Jarvo ruling, we can't count him.

Do I win 40 Drachma?
