The Sopranos was voted best ever TV drama.Never bothered with it much.What's so good about it? To promote the new series?
The Singing Detective would have been my number 1 but it came 4th .Boys From The Black Stuff was number 2:\ohwell:
State Of Play made the top 10 .Never watched that but it looks as though i missed a good series there.Edge Of Darkness too is another i never watched
Great to see clips from some of the classic old dramas .

Have C4 still not shown the new series? Well, 'new' as in 'one year old'. It was on E4 last summer, they're usually only a couple of weeks behind.
The Soprano's is, quite simply, the greatest drama ever written. I envy you, not having seen it. Get the first series on DVD and watch it through, then snaffle up all the rest. You won't regret it. It's the "Godfather" of all TV shows. Literally. I'll miss the buggers when they're finally gone.
Never seen an episode of The Sopranos either.. Probably something I could get into,if I find the time tho,as I enjoy most of the gangster films/movies. Is Sopranos a serial with ongoing plots that needs to be watched from the start,or a series you can just pick up from any episode?? And what series,or season as some pillocks say, are they upto?
After our recent Old Skool TV thread,I went daft on Ebay and bought a few TV series.. Prospects,Big Deal(series 1),One Summer,Scully + the movie The Long Good Friday which I'd heard alot of good things about.
Watched all 12 episodes of Prospects and the movie The Long Good Friday so far. Was'nt dissapointed either. Quality telly

Ongoing plots, so best to start from the very beginning. Also important for knowing who's who and what's what. There is an awful lot of sub-plots bubbling away in the Soprano's. Things keep coming back just when you least expect them.

And did you bother getting 'Prospects'
It was that distant for me it was like watching it from new,apart from me remembering the central characters..I enjoyed it anyhow.A steal at a fiver for the lot
The Sopranos should be barred from telly cause it glorifies violence, sexism and racism.

Got Prospects but not looked at it yet. Currently watching Johnny Jarvis when I have chance, and rewatched the two Dominick Hides over the weekend.
Sopranos has had six series so far, with one more to go.

All he did was film Henry Hill's life story, which was already neatly set out in black and white. There's nothing in the film which wasn't already pre-told by Henry Hill himself.

Indeed. And arguably all Scorsese has ever done is replayed classic 30s gangster flicks without the studio-imposed moral conclusion.
