Since we get to steal others' history, I think I'll steal Greece from 1000-400 BC, Rome from 400 BC- 400 AD, Byzantine from 400 -14th century, Italy 15th-16 century, Engerland 17th-19th century, USA 1901-200, Canada thereafter. OK, so I'm babbling.

I've never had St Patricks day off in my life, my own fault for being a Protestant :D

I remember in my final year at Queens, I wanted to get to the library to do a fuckload of studying. And it was closed for St Patricks Day! And you couldnt get a minutes peace for people shouting "Come on Tyrone" regardless of the fact that we were all in Antrim.

Paddy's day:thumb:

But in England, isn't just really great marketing by Guiness that keeps it going?

Plus I think the main upside to the holiday is that it is easy to understand and there are a bunch of stupid rules evryone knows they need to follow, like having to wear green. Plus Irish drinking songs are fun to drink to.

Thats just wrong.

Convince me, Liam: how would you like to see us celebrate 'our' national day?

A march through the street, rounding up scallies, stringing them up from lamp posts, while putting all Muslims in a big net and throwing them out of the country. :ignore:

EDIT: Due to peoples naivety and belief that i'm the re incarnate of Hitler, I have made the above comment in jest, in a joking sense to previous comments made to me by the above poster. I have no desire to put Muslims in a big net and throw them out of the country, as quite frankly, a lot of them make a damn nice curry.

You could argue that the irish and muslims deserve each other, i mean they're both dirty unwashed fuckers who think terrorism is a way to get what they want.

But i'd never suggest anything like that...

While you're at it, go on over to the jews thread and say nasty things about them too, you dumb f***. Or is it okay just to be racist again the Irish?

It's Brits like you that keep the IRA going, btw, 'cause all the rich Irish Americans hear shit like that and secretly think to themselves England deserves it and go to fundraisers for Noraid etc. I don't advocate that shit, but that's the truth.

Instead of mouthing off about other people, go and figure out why you worship a queen -- that's a good one - put people on pedestal because ther're inbred Germans.

I'm sure it was. And if you repeated what you typed in public there'd be a good few folk round here aiming more than a "pun" at you. Bawbag.

The IRA (and by that I presume you mean the Provos) arent 'going' anymore. They have announced that the war is over and all military operations have been ceased.

I dunno. I haven't seen much of him lately. He used to be the local anchor when the GPs was still on the other network. He always made a good impression then.

Didn't good old Al Jones have a couple of Fosters 'tinnies' before going out to race. LOL!:abovelol: Ah they were the days before F1 became so corporate/serious! Cheers!:thumb:

Doctor? wrote: I understand it of yanks, they have no history of their own and have to steal ours. But why do the English want to be Irish so badly? I don't get it, especially since "no dogs, no blacks, no f*king irish" is something that's well within living memory, on the on side, and from the other, didn't some Irish people make a career of slaughtering innocents in England. Baffled.

I was in Leeds for paddy's day in 99, and was just stunned at the greenery and faux-bogness.

I suppose the easiest explanation is thet Engerland really IS the 51st state and it's inmates just have to act like those American spastics, who despite being black, and called abudindaboogadu or blonde haired and called Kawalski....always belive granny came from Galway.

Better rethink that theory.

And it was my great, great granny, and it was County Cork, not Galway.
