Carrying on with my religious theme...........

Wa havin this convo in the boozer t'other day and this gadji tells mi that pakistan wa originally part of india,til they "split" sometime during this century,is this true? if so why did pakistan split from tindia? Was is just because of religious aspects?

Would be v interesting to know.

Umm.. ok.. in brief.

By 1947 India was too large in size and population, and was frequently subjected to major internal religious squabbles between Hindus, who formed about two thirds of the population and Muslims in the north.

Throughout the 20th century there was a movement to create a separate Islamic state, and this was finally agreed in 1947 with the help of Gandhi and all that. Bangladesh was also separated at the same time, but officially became a country in the early seventies.
