1 Woodgate (best I've seen in a long while) 2 Cannavarro 3 Terry 4 Carragher 5 R.Ferdinand

With a couple more in the top ten,I'd say England are pretty well off in this position

Do you mean Centre Halves who can actually defend, or lazy ones that are more interested in attacking, like Rio?

It hurt me to put Rio,I must admitt I dislike him,but at the top of his game he is good...for a giraffe. A fit Ledley King, would be more deserving of a place in my England side. What's yer Top 5 tho Unc?

Indeed, always find it hard to stomach when someone say they've got a centre-half who 'likes the ball at his feet'.

Just stick it into Row Z, no messin'. That's yer job. And only ever cross the halfway line when you trot up (centre-halves always 'trot up') for a corner.

My contribution, in order -

  1. Leon Barnett
  2. Curtis Davies
  3. Markus Heikkinen
  4. Chris Coyne
  5. Russ Perrett

The top 2 will be Engerland's Terry & Rio in 5 years time.

Cannavaro Nesta Big Sol (and on current form, who can argue?) John Terry Vidic

I can.

Pompey have been found out. Ask Gary or Gordie. Campbell is starting to panic (again), Johnson is going walkabout, etc.

Couldn't have argued 6 weeks ago, but on current form, they're fuct defensively!

Like the look of Vidic however. Proper no-nonsense old-fashioned defender. Which is why I like Terry too. Even though he's got a 9 year old's haircut.

Portsmouth have made massive strides this season. So its collapsed a bit the last six weeks, i daresay it will have improved by the end of the season. They very close to getting in Europe after almos tbeing relegated last year.

Why Big Sol isnt in the England Squad, i dont know. Actually, I do, its because we've got a totally incompetent head coach who doesnt know his arse from his elbow and wont pick the best players because they are associated with Sven.

He's a great defender, one of those players that doesn't like football though.

... who himself is associated with Sven.

Didn't Campbell retire anyways? Not sure.

He wouldn't get past Terry and Rio anyways. Proper dolly and daisy partnership, aren't they? Opposites attract and all that bollocks. Wouldn't mind seeing Carragher or Woodgate break-up the relationship but you can see why McLaren picks them as a 'pair' - one can defend, the other can play a bit.

My Pairing for England- Woodgate & Terry. Without a shadow of a doubt. Seriously,is anyone watching Woodgate recently? The best out there by a long way.

Got European player of the year whilst playing for a team who were guilty of 'match fixing' and stripped of their title? Not really on a level playing-field to everyone else was he? You have to wonder.

Bit short for a centre-half too.

Nice tats though. :uhoh:

Big Sol didnt retire. He was dropped. David James, who according to the OPTA stats that McClaren allegedly loves so much, is the best keeper in Europe this season!

We all dream of a team of Carraghers, a team of Carraghers, a team of Carraghers. Number one is Carragher Number two is Carragher Number three is Carragher Number four is Carragher Number five is Carragher

Although to be fair, we wouldn't score many goals :\ohwell:

err, hang on a minute...

David James gets a lot of work to do because of the defence in front of him.

Surprising really, seeing as Pompey play with two defensively minded midfielders as well. You'd have thought he'd have less to do than most?

You sure he's a centre half :confused2:

Newell thought he was a Left back, a Right back and a Striker!! :skeptic:

Solomon is finished as a top line centre half. Sadly, he can't be trusted not to bugger off home at half-time.

Likewise for Keepers, Calamity James just can't be trusted at all.

Played centre-mid against Leeds and was so woeful when clean through on goal that ...

... Newell started him up-front against Hull! :(

If that doesn't deserve a sacking I dunno what does!

Cos Strikers fetch a few bob more in the transfer market..and Newell gets his 10% of the fee. :skeptic: Cunning.

They now reckon in the papers, the corruption crusader himself, has made £800,000 on selling all those players for Luton...Shame really. He now seems a bit of a shitty hypocrite, pointing the finger, all the while lifting big tatoes,himself..Bad crac.

If it is true, the fans will be pissed,I gather he was popular. The fans had good reason to think he was sound as fuck, they'll be gutted.

Mixed feelings. Think the current administration's propaganda machine are just trying to besmirch him. They're deflecting the blame from themselves somewhat.

At the end of the day, Newell never accepted responsibility for the team's decline though. 5th in late October to 2nd bottom now is a fcuking farce. Certain signings haven't paid off and there's an Old Boys Club feeling about the place, he's playing a couple of individuals who should be dropped but instead he's given them longer contracts. Bit naughty that.

He's from Welwyn Garden City, that's probably why! :spit: :smoking:

Although, this is the town where Nick Faldo came from (who used to be good back in the day), and where up & coming F1 driver Lewis Hamilton comes from (okay, actually Tewin, but near enough)!
