Anyone been to see this yet?
I went this afternoon, its pretty good, well over hyped but not bad. Not as much blood and guts as i'd hoped for either.

Thanks. I plan to se it tomorrow and I was curious as to what people thought.
I have not seen the movie yet; but the comic book was very good. With my parents out the next few weeks I might go see it with my dad.

It got a good review in the local paper (8 out of 10) from a guy that doesn't normally love action/sci-fi films. I've heard some comlpaints about the way it potrays the Persians, though. Oh well, can't please everyone.
Heard the action and cinematography was good, but that the storyline was weak. Also that the end was weak as well.

I'm suprised they were able to make that movie, with the usual complaints about "victims rights" and all. I heard that it is suppose to be "to-the-detail" correct.....even to the outfits that the cop wears on throughout the movie.

With nothing but time on my hands this week, I slipped out of the office and went to the movies. Have you seen 300 yet? It's about a handful of lightly armed ancient Greeks—the Spartans—who take on the mighty and massive Persian army. Some feel the film is homophobic; some feel it's a conservative, pro-war piece of agitprop.

The Persian army is an armed gay-pride parade, a threat to all things decent and, er, Greek. The king of the Spartans—among the most notorious boy-fuckers in all of ancient history—dismisses Athenian Greeks as weak-willed "philosophers and boy lovers." The Persian emperor? An eight-foot-tall black drag queen—mascara, painted-on eyebrows, pink lip gloss. Emperor RuPaul is positively obsessed with men kneeling in front of him. Why gay up the Persians? So that straight boys in the theater can identify with the Spartan king and his 300 soldiers—all of whom appear to have been recruited from and outfitted by the International Male catalog.
What isn't up for debate is the film's politics. The only times the Persian army doesn't look like a gay-pride parade in hell, it looks like a crowd of madly chanting Islamic militants. And if the Spartan king has to break the Spartan law to defend Spartan freedoms? Well, sometimes a king's gotta do what a king's gotta do. Because, as the queen of Sparta points out, freedom isn't free. And, yes, she uses exactly those words. George Bush is going to blow a load in his pants when he sees this movie.

IF Don Savage's review is accurate, I find it rather amusing. In actuality, the 300 Spartan warriors were all lovers. Each one had a partner within the group. Don't know if the Persians were actually into that stuff or not.
Oh yeah, and since this took place before Islam was created, the Persian army can't really be "Islamic militants"

Saw it yester day at the IMAX (a 100 foot digital screen) pretty good film, perfect for the IMAX!
Definitely want to see this.... but probably going to take some friends with me so I can deal with the violence! :)

I don't understand your question. I'm stating that the 300 Spartans were lovers. 150 intimate couples. I've seen it on numerous documentaries, well before this movie came out. Where's the confusion??

300 warriors. 150 couples x 2 warriors in a couple = 300 warriors. A couple = 2, by definition.

Last time i took the kids to the flicks,the boy at the pic n mix tried to charge me £5 odds for two pokes of sweets,needless to say he nearly ended up wearing them

I've always done this since i was a kid. full sized coke bottles etc. prices in the Pictures have always been high.

I've been doing that for year. Of course, if you have a yen for popcorn, you almost have to buy it there, but I can get by just fine with candy. This is one reason it's good to take a woman to the theater- you can hide a lot of shit in her purse. She earns her ticket that way. :)
In defense of the theaters, though, I've heard that they don't got to keep any of the money from the sale of tickets, so they have to make all their money from concessions. That is at least part of the rteason they screw you on the popcorn & drinks.

It is a rip off, but its all part of going isn't it, Pick'n'Mix and all that? Beer is the same in the pub, £2.80 say for a bottle of Becks, but we pay it!
