Scalextric

I've been doing a lot of clearing out and ebaying to get a few quid together for a holiday.

I thought I had some scalextric in a cupboard at my parents house so on Saturday afternoon Mr Milk & I spent the afternoon looking for Scalextric sites on the web to do a bit of research...

When we dug the boxes out of the cupboard the memories came flooding back. My brother is four years older than me so always ruled the track and on Saturday I discovered how. The cheeky bugger had weighted down his cars so they stuck to the track...

We had two huge boxes of stuff, most of it from the late 60's and most still in the original boxes.... after doing a quick guestimate using a toy action site & ebay as a guideline for prices it looks like we have got approximately a grand's worth of buildings & cars...

Anybody else got any old toys they wish they kept in the box and treated a bit better???

I'm a packrat so I have rarely thrown anything out, plus add the fact that I was stupidly anal about keeping my toys in good condition. With that said my old comic book, baseball card, and Star Wars figure collections seem to be worth a bit. they all stay in storage for someday.......to do what I can't be sure.....

I've still got my old Star Wars action figures, but most of them have the guns missing, which decreases the value quite a bit. Now how do they expect a nine year old to NOT lose those bloody guns!

I used to have a couple of the Star Wars space ships, like the Millenium Falcon, but the old man threw those out years ago, no doubt to creat much needed space in the attic.

Was in some shop at the weekend and saw that ypu get chips in the new cars. You can turn their lights on and off from the controller. Ace!

Can't see it denting XBox sales too much, mind.

I have a bunch of Star Wars Action Figures and about 7,000 comic books at home. Last time I priced out the comic books I think they had a book value of around $40,000. I wish that I kept some of my older toys while growing up and not let my parents get rid of them.

Yeah, the old Nintendo/CCG Game and Watch things, Donkey Kong, Marios Cement Factory etc. The rarer ones are worth a (comparative) fortune on Ebay, in good nick and boxed. Good nick would have ruled mine out if i had´nt binned them 20 years ago.

I wish I started to collect them sooner I only started collecting them back in 1989. I have a few from the 1950's and my most expensive comic right now is worth about $1500. It has just gotten to the point that I can't afford to go out and buy them anymore

Is it Giant Size X-Men #1? Or maybe X-Men #94 or #1?

Yeah, those things are three bucks a pop and they have so damn many titles nowadays I don't know how anyone can afford to collect. I'm glad I grew up in the much simpler times of the 1980's. :)

There's a whole heap of Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars I wish I hadn't destroyed and kept. Some of those are now quite collectible.

I have Giant Size X-Men #1, which is the most expensive one that I own. My run of Uncanny X-Men starts at 120 and went to right around 400 before I had to stop. Plus I have about another 60 issues below 120.

But your right; there are so many different titles and with the average price now over $3 a comic; it very expensive to keep up with the new issues if you are collecting a lot of titles. It also does now help me that most of what I need (the stuff from 1975 or earlier) will average close to $30 an issue, so the costs start to go up pretty fast.

and here I was happy because I had a $175 Tales from the crypt (Ibought at a swap meet when I was 9 for 50 cents). And a Batman comic worth $85 (year1).

Luckily I read mine so carefully there isn't a crack, crease or dent on them. But mine totaled are suppodedly worth around $4000. But I'm not sure if that's true since it seems EBay has really put a dent into the market.

But you are right, I take my son to get comics from time to time, and they are insanely priced. Also they aren't written for kids anymore. Alot of graphic deaths and overly sexy women in them anymore. Not really fit for 9 year olds.

I'm actually kinda tempted to keep em for another 10 years... My dad paid £50- for the lot back in 1970 odd and he always used to say.. 'save it... might be worth something in a couple of years time....'

He keeps expecting to see himself on there one day... I'm waiting until he has renewed his electrical & gas qualifications... he's bound to be worth more with them.... shame we aint got his original box...

Also have a cupboard full of zoo animals by Britains (example below). Literally have LOADS of 'em! Bought up everything that appeared on ebay maybe 5-6 years ago, just out of habit. They always reminded me of being a little 'un!

Of course it has to do with demand. I wish I sold my baseball cards 15 years ago when they totaled $15,000. Now with eBay and people not caring like they used to its only worth about$6000.
