I'll just be my usual quiet, boring self. There's no danger of any upsets from this corner :D Although I did have a run in with someone once, but that was a long time ago and he's f*cked off anyway.

Although i joined this site a few years ago, I know i dont contribute a lot here compared to many, but all i have ever got from this site are positives, great pre-gig meet ups (Hyde Park - have never known an atmosphere like it outside of a sporting event) and some amazing nights out seeing Re:Order and Hooky, especially NOOL day and met some great people who i would probably not have met otherwise. So yeah, i support this 100% and urge 1 or 2 individuals to remember that it is one thing to be a keyboard warrior, but my personal code is that i wouldnt say anything to anyone on here that i wouldnt be prepared to say in real life. And so ends my first serious post!

An idea crossed my mind (it happens sometimes, I am the first surprised).

The e-mails should be kept secret (on the site database)and be used for mailing purposes and other things of this kind only. The Private Messages should be the one and only means of commucation for noolers in order to express what they want to out of the boards...

Yes, the pub pre-Hyde Park was fantastic, about a million times better than the gig in fact, and it just goes to prove the general truism that the arseholes who ruin this site arre always the ones permanently stuck behind their keyboards and not the people who interact socially without the prop of technology.

I'm glad people enjoyed the 'soap opera'. I didn't, funnily enough, and am inevitably less inclined to bother posting on here with any degree of frequency anymore (which may, of course, have well been one of the prime motivations of the 'culprit'). I'll stick with "Hollyoaks", thanks: it's consequence-free and the protagonists are better looking.

The thing that gets me is that some newbies come on here and ask legitimate questions and get ridiculed for it - thats hardly gonna make someone want to come back here.

Not everyone has the same knowledge of New Order/Joy Division, so it would be nice if people just answered the question or point them in the right direction so they can find they info out for themselves.

I remember at the begining of the year whoever runs the site (oldmonkey?), was asking for donations to pay for the server - the upshot is if people are not prepared to come to the site because certain individuals do not make people feel welcome, then there might be a situation where the server cannot be paid for, then we all lose out.

No, I don't actually run the site, strangely enough, though it may look like that at times. I'm just the mug who tries to keep it together. I do the things like set up the NOOL Day, put gigs on for people to socialise at, and make sure that anyone who wants a recording of anything can get hold of it, either personally or through a contact. And at what price? Just abusive private messages and a load of grief, that's all. Enough is enough though. Thanks to the one person who admitted they come on here to cause trouble, maybe you would like to take over as moderator?

Seeya people, you know where I am if you want to contact me.

That is a very fair point. I'm amazed at some of the vitriol that is dished out here, just because a newbie posts something that has evidently been asked before. If the 'old hands' find it irritating, just ignore it.

I'm going to get shit for it.. but this place went even more downhill when a football forum was started to keep the football off the original football forum, and then the original football forum turned into the shed.

Remember when people were complaining about "omg let us talk! you're too mean this is offtopic forum!!!" Well this is what happens when MSN like posts go wild.

that's the last negative thing I'll say on the subject

I'm gonna sit on the fence for this one.

Really don't like the word 'Community' (and have always said as such) and if everyone here just simpered at everyone else's words it'd be a boring place to post. It's always the tension which keeps most of us glued, or so I thought.

We've had two separate big nights out for onliners in London this week, and I've had two different sets of onliners crash at my gaff the past two nights ... and you'll never hear me bang on about any 'Community' bollocks. The people who bandy the word around the most are the ones who always appear to break the Community ground rules first.

You want a genuine 'Community'? Go the Ceremony forum. At least most of the posts there are about people generally 'meeting up' with one another, and not just being virtual 'enemies' in hyperspace.

I was just gonna ignore this thread as 'oh fucking turn it in,who cares'. Changed my mind. If i genuinely had to think twice about what i posted would there be any point posting at all?

You should be able to say what you like as you would in the 'real' world, with the same level of caution and common sense.

If i wanna call JAK a scouse cunt, i should be able to! Because its a general comment not aimed at upsetting him, same as he thinks im a Manc twat. I dont care if people think im a cock cos of my job, and i dont moan about it. You can say what you like about it, i wouldn't hold it against you. If you've got to walk on egg shells you're wasting your time posting.

Obviously i think there's a line, and you dont cross it - thats been proved this past week. But having a laugh at someone elses expense should be allowed as long as its not too personal. Certain things should be dealt with faster, but hey if a moderator misses something what can you do?

I think Tim has been unfairly left to sort this current set of problems out alone. He's not the only moderator on here is he? Nic has had a rough ride of late and is probably too stressed to be arsed about this place, and gave people extra editing options for a purpose.

It wasn't to leave Tim to get on with it on his todd. You must be owed a few beers fella.

Of course you should. But you can't convey the same pisstaking tone with text on an Internet forum as you can clutching a pint and using body language/winks/nudges in real life. If you called someone a twat in person with a smile and a nudge then chances are they wouldn't take it seriously but if you called that same person a twat on here then they might take it to heart and go nuclear in response.

That goes doubly so if you've never met the twa...er person.

That's why there's so many problems in this forum

There's also Keyboard Warriors as El Jarvo would put it; most of them just trolls with nowt to say about New Order whether it be records or gigs. Alot of the worst offenders in BCD never post about the band in the other forums which I personally just don't get.

Nowt wrong with it as it is,as far as the site goes IMO.

You are always going to get disagreements and the odd verbal ruck in type, and the place is richer for it...Again,only my opinion. But then I appreciate some people are more sensitive, and quite possibly consider the site the bee-all-end-all...Grow a thicker skin would be my advice to them.

There is always the concern the place would become sterile and devoid of any jibbin an ribbin of one another,if you take this too literally and have no tollerance of people winding each other up for a laugh. What do people want? Bland boring niceness all the time? Real life is not like that either, least not where I come from.Thank Fuck.

But emails to people's bosses is obviously a cunt's trick, and another matter entirely!

Well, SFA is going on with NO right now, but I agree when the band were touring last year, the a lot of same people who are the issue, were the people not posting in the on topic forums--when there was plenty to talk about! Same thing with when WFTSC came out but a lot of them weren't as active then as they are now.

I'd like to be able to talk about football in BCD rather than the Off-Topic-Off-Topic Forum  There's no traffic in WiM.

Exactly and most of that active bunch can be linked to all the excessive pish in this forum of late.

This is a forum that prides itself on bollocks as well.

The WiM forum was created for the World Cup I believe, which was obviously quite some time ago. I believe Nic intended to merge the threads in there with BCD post-tournament and then do away with WiM completely. Understandably with his personal circumstances then and now I don't think he's found the time.

Plus wasn't there a poll not long after the end of the World Cup where everyone was asked if they wanted to keep the WiM forum and the overall feeling was "Yes"?

Yes, that's right. I don't remember if it was a proper poll, or just a regular thread where somebody asked the question and people replied "yes" or "no", but I do remember that. I remember a lot of yes's and not too many no's.

Look who voted yes tho. Saah-ker fans and people who want their MSN conversations interrupted with actual posts. It doesn't make sense. Taking football off bcd killed it!

This forum seems to be a never-ending source of problems, and since I have not been present on a daily basis recently (and won't be until I move on June 1st probably), I am happy the mods are doing a good job with the limited tools that they have and it's my duty to give them more powers in the next version of this website.

I have people complaining in PM and in email, seriously people, I have enough problem of my own right now to deal with your own problems, if you don't like what a mod do, discuss with him not with me right now! any other mod can bring this issue in the moderator forum and they can discuss what to do.

And to be honest, people who don't post crap and participate in the ON-TOPIC forum will always have the edge over the others in my book, this forum is there only to discuss about other stuff, but this site is about New Order, if you are not here to discuss about New Order, what the hell are you doing here? :skeptic:

Original Joy Division and then its Side Projects. BCD is unique as it is a Current events page mixed w/ 20 Random questions. The Occasions that it strays well that's life. Am I right is reading that a significant line was crossed. Obviously bang out of Order. International opinions and Time zones come into play so it's a kick to have a 24hrs. Open sign.

While intentions here may be noble, you have to ask yourself: what's really going to be achieved by this thread? Everyone rallies, replies, counts themselves in, drops a few happyface emoticons, group hugs, plants a tree, sings "We Are The World" and what ends up changing? SFA.

The regular cast here is becoming a little weary and predictable. It's Carry On Rocket!, 30 movies in. With scant hope of new band material, fresh points of view should be the lifeblood of the forums. Seems to me that often they're just drowned in the detritus or worse still, discouraged because they dare ask questions deemed unworthy.

To me, the biggest problem in BCD is quality control but I guess that's the nature of the beast. It's impossible to regulate. Some of the liveliest, wittiest and most compelling exchanges have come from the hijacking of threads. Others from tensions where posters have taken stances against the majority. But too often, the thread gems are overwhelmed by uninspired dross. And sadly, too many of NOOL's unique voices have been driven away by officious moderation and/or the mob mentality.

One constructive thing that could be done here is to remove post counts from profiles. What positive purpose do they actually serve? I see only one: they can assist n00bs to identify who's been around for a while so may be better equipped to assist with queries. So remove the post counts and just leave the "Member Since ..." data in the profiles. It's worked wonders for other forums.

Although no one openly admits to giving a rat's about post counts, it still creates a sort of moral hierarchy in what's meant to be a digital republic. Some sort of tragic "I'm a bigger NO fan than you" badge. But how many of these posts were in any way related to NO? Who cares how many mindless one-liners you've posted in BCD? Why is it even relevant? Perhaps in removing what's seen by some as a reward for posting tosh, we'll get less of it.

There's only one person seems to want post counts to appear.........and he owns the site! We've been trying to get rid of them for about 6 years now.

The purpose of this thread? To gauge whether anyone actually did care whether there was a site or not, as the recent Fradleygate episode caused a lot of ill-feeling and various toys out of prams.

Nothing will change of course, but then again we all knew that anyway.

As someone who's been around as a lurker first and now (over-)regular poster for a few years, the problem as I see it is that a lot of the aggro is caused by people who are in some way involved in this 'real' 'community', i.e. people who have been around for a while, have been to gigs, etc. and met other NOOLers... Yet, when there is a massive flare-up, people often seem to end up nostalgic for the good old days before all these newbies arrived and 'ruined' the site... Of course there have been some newer posters who haven't exactly endeared themselves to the site as a whole, but unless the site ends up as a closed shop with no new members allowed or with private fora, or whatever, it is inevitable that it's going to change... If older posters get fed up and stop posting, so what... If new members join and start posting, great... It would be nice for newer members to maybe take some time to get used to the site, lurk a bit to get the feel of the place before launching into the fray, that's what I did and I think it gave me a feel for some of the characters around and the nature of the boards and posts... There are always going to be folks who don't get it, offend and take offence, the key is to let the Mods do their job (which they do very well, imo) and to try not to take everthing so seriously... The October gigs were a great time for the site, Blue Staurday even more so... Maybe that's the end of live stuff from NO, but there's still potential for a NOOL Day next year (?), there are other gigs and meet-ups... I'd very much like to meet up with some folks from here again at some such event, in the meantime maybe the site isn't as relevant without NO activity, but it's still a great place for info, music (NO or otherwise) and brightening up the day at work... If people can't do that without offending others or taking offence, that's sad, but I'm not going to let that get to me... Maybe nothing will change, but there are at least more than a few people who want the site to continue and want to sort out some of the problems that seem to crop up, and that's positive... If you've read this far, thank you - you've been a wonderful audience...

Bit 'arsh, DC.

Whatever next? Those of us who post here regularly 'have no life'?

Time to lock this thread now. Surely the best way to move on is to do just that?

I know of one who is solely missed now that was driven out. As for myself i got rid of the HIGH post count by ditching my profile that got screwed.Ending the post count though will have no effect on those who post a lot.Surely some of us have a lot more free time or IDLE time in which we use to keep in touch.I know i should e-mail or use MSN more but this side of the forum just makes it easier to keep in touch. Will try harder Depthcharge.

Which is the complete opposite of my view on this.

Beds vs Herts. Never the twain. :nonono:

I personally think the 'aggro' always seems to stem from newbies blundering in thinking we're all chums just cos we like the same pop group. Which is obviously total and utter bowlax.

The recent shenanigans against Fradders were (allegedly, natch) instigated by someone who's never even MET the lad. Nor even met many of us who actually know the young Doctor. Now that takes a very special level of spite if it's to be believed. Perhaps if people were just a mite more clued up and did genuinely interact away from hyperspace they wouldn't carry that level of malice around with them.

But that's just my two'penneth.

Anyone else doubting that Comrade did the dirty deed in the first place? Where is the evidence? This all seems a very harsh on him if he never did it,regardless of his past misdemeaners. Also, seems plausible that some spiteful spacker-sort has it in for both Fradders and Comrade, hence the set up.

I'm NOT saying Comrade DID'NT send the sneaky email,because I don't know.

Can't help thinking that the plot thickens, though.

No doubt some would say good riddance to Comrade anyway, but I'm one of those that does'nt like an injustice wherever it is.

Can anybody yet clarify that Comrade was responsible?

Having reread what I wrote originally, I suppose it's not totally true - I missed Fradleygate, so can't comment on that, and suppose I was writing with a few random bits of cyber-fisticuffs in mind - newbis bursting in and 'taking over' can be annoying and certainly does get people's backs up and cause trouble - which was why I advocated a spot of lurking to get used to how things run before really getting involved... I still think a fair amount of aggro on here comes from people who have been around long enough to know better, but of course it's often by generalising that things kick off... Wholeheartedly agree that folks need to think before they post and try to sort out problems in rpivate rather than airing their solied undercrackers online... And that's the closest I'm prepared to come to any sort of agreement with a Hatter... If only we could all be one big happy Community... :skeptic:

Boatraceface wrote: Anyone else doubting that Comrade did the dirty deed in the first place? Where is the evidence?

Not sure it can be proved 100% - unless someone knows otherwise? - and seeing as we're all such jolly good chaps Comrade should certainly remain innocent until proven guilty.

Oh, or unless he blurts out his guilt like Jack Nicholson did in A Few Good Men (what a shite film - no actual proof so the bloke just admits it at the end! Dur)

However, am sure we're all in agreement it's digusting what happened to Fradders.

(edit: why does the nodding smilie need to have such a big all-knowing grin?)

I seriously doubt it, since I think it would have seen the light of day when Comrade stated his innocence.
