FAO People from London

So I've got a few gigs coming up that are in London (Pearl Jam, Aerosmith/Chris Cornell and Metallica, for the record..)

And yeah.. it would just be really helpful if you could help me out with some questions I have, as personally I have no idea about anything as far as London is concerned... Thanks in advance

1. Distance from London Victoria coach station and Wembley Arena? Approximate cost in a taxi? How long would it take?

2. Distance from Hyde Park to London Victoria coach station? Approximate cost in a taxi? How long would it take?

3. Distance from Wembley Stadium and London Victoria coach station? Approximate cost in a taxi? How long would it take? (Although I assume this as the same as the answer to the first question, as the Arena and the Stadium are like right next to each other!)

Yeah, Hyde Park - Victoria is an easy walk.

Wembley Areana and Stadium are right next to each other and is the tube to Wembley Park.

Victoria Line (Light Blue one) to Oxford Circus. Bakerloo Line (Brown one) to Baker Street. Metropolitan Line (Purple one) to Wembley Park.

Under an hour including the walk at either end.

If you're on the National Express coach it might drop off / pick up at Finchley Road, which is one stop (about 7 mins) from Wembley Park on the Metropolitan line.

As you are no doubt aware, Prime Minister Campbell has passed a bill calling for the creation of the "Millenium and a wee bit Lake".

Regrettably, a small portion of your city is scheduled for demolition and subsequent scooping, flooding and carp[1] stocking.

We would therefor urge residents in the affected area to leave forthwith and with all haste. We begin cutting around the inside edge of the M25 at 9am tomorrow. Scooping will begin sometime in June (the slag (ie. the city)we scoop out will be dumped in the deep atlantic). certain convenient areas will be excluded, Primrose Hill, Canary Wharf, The NWtower, anything that will make a good "bank" to fish from, the rest....gone to the depth of all but the deepest tunnels (to encourage eels to grow very big). We anticipate flooding and stocking to be completed by the opening of the 2009 fishing season.

We appreciate the cooperation of the people of London in this matter, and as a token of our appreciation would like to offer you a year's free rod license on the lake One license per family, license not vaild on week days, bank holidays or alternate weekends, license valid in 4 periods of november december and january only.

Jack what days are your gigs on at Wembley? I work for TfL so could check out whether there's any engineering works/problems on your routes. Cheers!

There's a 70+ in Redmire? Fook me! Last time I was there (1979 or 1980) Yatesey had done the 51, and there was a big fuss about that, as it raised the bar 7lbs from Dick Walker's common. Redmire was a few miles from where I was brought up (real name Bernithan Court Pool), we knew the farmer who owned the land. Never did understand why they grew so big there, I didn't break 20lbs though.

At the same time, it's increasingly rare that train stations and their increasingly zealous staff allow you to kip there overnight. I have fond teenage memories of pissing about with mates at stations in Nottingham, Wolves, Manc after gigs until the first train home the next day. Imagine my surprise, then, when me & mate get casually ejected from Liverpool Lime Street after the Olympia gig in 2001.....

Pat Nevin told us a story about scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in a game against Man City then deciding it would be a good idea to stay in Manc on his own and head to the Hac. Found himself in Picadilly at 4AM waiting for the first train back to London trying to hide his face from all the wasted City fans stumbling about the concourse.

Thought the "aleged" 70lb+ was in horseshoe lake? Cant remember where the fook horseshoe lake is? reading?

I wouldn't bother with taxis, I usually get buses(and maybe the tube)! (though last time I was on a London bus we crashed into a bright pink ice cream van in heavy traffic outside the houses of parliment!)

A slight hijack with another London question.....any suggestions what a completely jet lagged person can do to waste 8 (ish) hours in London? (and the jet lagged person has seen EVERYTHING touristy in london!)

near enough to Reading, yes. Lechlade in Gloucestershire.

Have you seen "a passion for angling?"

There's an episode of that where they go monster hunting in Remire, and I'm sure the fish they are after is mentioned at 70+

As for waiting.....nah it'll take millions of years of warming to end this ice age once and for all, and I wanna see London drown now.

Speaking of alledged monsters.....I've read half a dozen folks convinced of pike at least 70 in Ireland, and one bloke who is convonced there is a 100 pounder. Bonkers!

I had a 22lb pike on the Avon at Evesham, I was politely running a stick float down the margin and picking up a few chub and roach when the bites stopped. Five mins later and on a slightly wider line I hit a 6oz roach who got slammed immediately by this bloody great magnus who wouldn't get go. Not bad on a 20 and 1.7!

I'm shite at fresh water I must confess, I'm too ham fisted. But there is a pleasure to sea fishing you'll never experience on a lake or river. Hot sunny day, hundreds of kids leaping off the pier into the harbour, swimming around and emerging sometimes as close as 15 feet from where I am sitting with a 30lb class boat rod, a Penn winch and an 8/o Hook with half a mackerel on it. Many kids remark in the style of "you fishin fer sharks mister? yer dick!". Fast forward to the moment I produce 4 feet fo teeth, muscle and attitude from right under the steps where they were climing. It was like that scene in jaws, fighting each other to get out, and I made sure that questions like "are there many that big down there?" were answered with "hundreds, this one's only a tidler" They were totally baffled that, after damned near snapping my rod and my back to land it, I gently released it with a mouthful of mackerel. Conger fishing, sport for the lazy.

I dunno, I have twice gone to Dublin alone to see The Orb with no plan to get home beyond the 0600 Enterprise to Belfast. That's wrecked and sweaty in a foreign city where not everyone might be best impressed when they hear your accent.

As it happens, I got a lift home BOTH times, the guy who gimme a lift the first time, a local record store owner and DJ, still bounds up to me in the street and thanks me for getting a lift with him....cos I made him pull over in the arse end of nowhere, CO.Louth, to see the Hale Bopp comet, which was about 6 weeks from perhelion and a HELL of a site.
