Tried it myself 1998-2001 on occasions, and it was always good for "birds who want shagging but no big future talks" and all that gubbins. Even though they wanted the big future talks...... :evil4:

......and then one day this rather attractive young lady started work at my office, and the rest as they say is history.

I got mine the good old fashioned way...

Ummmm... been through the mill on this topic:laugh:

From what I've seen and experienced the dating pool tends to consist of either:

a) raving nymphomaniacs

b) psychopathic lunatics; personality flippers

c) wobbly people. People who were once slim, and have the photos from the past to prove it and email, but once you meet them they are so f'ing fat they need a wheelchair.

My internet connection dates back to the late 70's and it's slow as fuck.

Is that what you're on about ?

Cheers

If I was single I'd do it in a heartbeat. One of my best mates, whose never had difficulty pulling via "conventional" methods, signed up to Match.com last year. Shortly afterwards he had a different date for every night of a whole week. Didn't meet anyone "special" and ended up getting back with his ex after about a month but he reckons there were plenty of potentials among the girls he met.

And he shagged two of 'em.

A friend of mine married someone he met off match.com and they divorced a year later. He's still in therapy over it.....

Another friend found her husband on match.com and they're still married and just produced crotch fruit.

I guess sometimes it works, sometimes, it doesn't....

I had a buddy years ago that found this girl in a chat room. They hit it up real good, and all he could do was brag about her. How hot she was (by the pic she produced) and how she was a big time lawyer in new york. After 3 months she flew down to see him, and he reserved a three night excursion in the mountians, renting a secluded cabin(which we all told him NOT to do). He also set it up to meet her infornt of work, so he could show her off to us.

When she showed up she was in the double dueces, the rental car sagged on the side she was in. They got in an arguement up to the mountians, and they had to stayed up there, since her plane ticket wasn't for awhile. He claimed nothing happened, but I have my suspisions.:skeptic:

Aaahhh! I think it's wonderful for some . . .. mind you, the company I work for (nothing to do with internet dating) shares its name with a dating agency. Makes checking your messages on a monday interesting! ;)

There's always this element of people not being who they say they are though, isn't there? I spent some time excahnging mails and a couple of phone calls with one woman in 2000, and was looking forward to meeting her. Not only did she bear no resemblance to her photos, she was even a different personality. Turned out it was her mate who had been on the phone, trying to help her out! The relationship didn't last.....

That so amuses me . . . surely you would only put Elle McPhersons photo's online when you look like Kathy Bates if you never had any intention of meeting the person!!!

Well that's what I would have thought, yes, but it turned out that it was girl x who was using the net and phone on behalf of her mate girl y. One of the stranger episodes!

Well...i haven't tried. In several times people get used to show false pictures and videos, so when you finally meet them....they are ugly

Anyway..i think women do this kind of things more than Men.

i friend of mine named Adriana met a guy from Rome on Internet and they got married....poor man, he doesn't know the kind of person he is with

Actually I don't see the real need for this. It isn't that hard to meet women to date.......but my guess is that its for people that have never gotten over thier fears of the opposite sex and/or are uncomfortable with themselves?

I guess that it's more to do with "where would you go to meet women" rather than over fears of the opposite sex? A lot of people tend to have busy lives, and thus the introduction of new women to date recedes.

In fact, most people tend to meet their future partners either at school or work!

I haven't tried internet dating, btw... :smoking:

I think that's a flimsy excuse. When I was single I rarely met girls at any particular place (bars, clubs, etc.) instead I met them in the grocery store, resturants, gas stations, and other places where you just happen to "bump" into people. Not to mention friends of old girlfriends, and friends or other people you bump into.

If it makes them sleep better at night thinking its due to being "busy".......:\ohwell:

This is not to say ALL those that tried the internet are like this. Hell it might be worth an expidition, but using it as the main recourse is what I mean.

Slightly 'arsh, EdelBrock! At the end of the day, it's just another string to your bow in the dating game. I'm no stranger to the world of t'internet dating (we've done this here before, and I know I wrote a very detailed response) and have never exactly been a stranger to the ladies either and the internet is a fantastic weapon in yer armoury. I mean, you could be out with the lads of a Thursday night and meet someone ... but then, you could simply be sat at home on a Sunday arvo 'meeting' someone too via the net. Nothing could be easier! Opens up a whole world of opportunities!

I would heartily recommend it to anyone single!

With regard to your original comments, it's rather easy to meet people in real life just to converse with too ... do you perhaps have same-sex fears or are in some way uncomfortable with yerself that you have to come on here and make 'friends'?! :shades:

Complete fookin' bollocks. Do you always go the pub, or do you go the offie sometimes? It's still beer, just from a different place.

I only used the net for dating for a while to supplement the usual bars and clubs avenues. As it happened, I met my wife at work, but the net certainly added a few strings to the bow for a while. Fears of the opposite sex? Uncomfortable with myself? Hardly!

And how exactly have you arrived at that utterly bizarre conclusion? You've been watching to many daytime TV "psychologists" methinks.

I'd rather meet someone online who's there for the same reasons as I am than harrasing strangers I "bump into" at the gas station or when I'm dashing down the aisles in Sainsburys. Freak!

As I said, if I was single I'd deffo give it a go.

NB Read a cracking book about internet dating on holiday last year "Millions Of Women Are Waiting To Meet You" by Sean Thomas. True story and funny as fuck.

:duel::laugh: Point well taken. The main reason I come on here is because its interesting to hear views from different areas around the world, which is kinda hard to get in the backyard.

But Jarvo, Old Monkey and Glas....I did post this in the last post, guess you missed it?

You've gotta remember that "dating" works a lot differently over here. Approaching blank strangers in shopping malls, at the car wash or whatever is pretty much a no no over here although from what I can gather it's quite common over your way.

I remember queuing up to pay in a store in LA once and watching the bloke in front of me asking for the checkout girls' number. That just doesn't happen here. You'd be perceived as being a weirdo/potential beast if you tried that kinda behaviour in Blighty, regardless of what they tell you on "Would Like To Meet".

The mating ritual here involves both sexes drinking a skinful of liquor and heading out to clubs in the hope of bagging a partner. If you're over the age of 25 you can undersatnd why internet dating might be preferable to this popular route.

That said, ye cannae whack a good few bevvys and a grope at some complete stranger in a nightclub.

Now women in uniform, that's another matter. You should have seen the police woman who visited me last week. well she'd be a stunner in or out of uniform.

Perhaps I should arrange for another burglary or commit some sort of crime myself. Ah well I'll never see her again.

She did so like the pic of my niece and even said that the photo of her had been taken on her birthday.... .

Dating: odd.

Blind dating: suicide mission.

Love: overrated.

Being single: very aggrevating.

On the one hand, there's something kinda pathetic about it, like finally admitting that you have no interpersonal skills whatsoever and you can't attract someone on your charm alone. But on the other hand...it's that or the other hand, right? :evil4:

I'm on the fence about it, because I think it's something that is worth exploring if only because it's an interesting new approach to the age-old dance. Someone made the point about people not being who they really are when they're online, but you could argue that no one is really "themselves" when they go out on the first or even second date. You have to be charming to an extent, and then you unload the dirty laundry, the obsession with David Hasselhoff, and the constant references to sheep sex on the poor girl and see if she's got the stomach for it

I think internet dating that leads to actual dating is the best, plenty of people talk themselves into believing that they have a "relationship" with someone just because they email back and forth but don't meet for fear that the other person is a fugly-in-disguise. You need the personal one-on-one contact to make sure you're just as charming in person as you are online, but it is fun to interact with someone online because you can show off your personality very well that way as well.

And hey, it beats masturbation

I worked for me... at least for 6 years!

And the last one I met before (from the net too) is a friend of 10 years now.

Sure, if you are not a shy person, what's the point.. ;) but if you are, it's a great way to introduce yourself...

The only "problem" would be liars, but I never met any, and I don't lie on who I am neither, so...

Speaking of which, since I'm now available, ladies, you can contact me :evil4:

j/k ;)

Well Tim, that's the point.. you can't lie of those things, otherwise it's a total loss of time.

You met me, you know I can't lie about how I look ;) it would be noticable the first minute

I think she must have figured that it wouldn't matter on the day because I was already sufficiently interested, or something like that. Not a chance!

Internet dating can be a bit of a challenge, it's certainly different from picking up people in bars etc. Mind you, do people have the same thimg for breakfast every morning, or a bit of variety occasionally?

Looking back now on the time I spent internet dating, it was on the whole good fun, and I would recommend it to anyone, whether you can pull successfully without the internet or not. It's an extra string to the bow.
