C4 Get Rich In China Documentary Last Night

Quality documentary if only for featuring the legend/nutter that is Vance Miller. He's the dude from Oldham who now runs the second biggest kitchen retailer (Kitchen's Direct)in the UK after being instrumental in putting MFI out of business last year.

I saw a documentary about him a few years ago on BBC 2 called "The Kitchen Gangster". The dude travels deep into China sourcing kitchen doors, granite worktops, fancy taps, lavvy pans etc and sells them over here for pennies. The only problem was, when he started out, loads of them had bits missing or would fall apart and Trading Standards hit him with a "cease and desist" order which he ignored and ended up going to jail for!

The highlight last night had to be his fake Olympic Inspectors bus.....While travelling through deepest darkest China he was trying to avoid getting hassled by the authorities so he bought a luxury band tourbus and got it all painted up with the Olympic symbol and "OFFICIAL OLYMPIC INSPECTION TEAM" written in Chinese down the side. Balls of steel.

By chance I came across this article about Vance Miller in the Rochdale Observer. Don't know too much about Miller's involvement (or not) with the criminal fraternity but no wonder he's hiding out in China as it seems he's been a naughty boy with the 'Grass' graffiti that sprouted up about him in and around his Rochdale/Oldham patch.
