Today is the tenth anniversary of his death. He had gone to Memphis to start recording hi second album. The sun was shining when Buckley decided to jump in the Mississippi River and take a swim. The undercurrent grabbed him and Jeff Buckley drowned.
His voice was an incredible instrument and well I feel cheated because he should have been around for decades. His range and emotion still awe me.

TBH, I never got the big deal about him. Grace has two good songs 'Last Goodbye' and 'Hallelujah' but the rest is non descript.
He did have potential which is probably the whole power behind the mythos 'Imagine what he'd be doing now' etc but his death has frozen him in time. He'll never release substandard albums, be critically slated for being out of sync with the current music scene and never embark on a tour of pubs playing to four disinterested punters.
Death was the best career move for him.
Aye, no a bad singer, his version of L Cohen's "Hallelujah" blows the numerous other covers of it out the water, and I also prefer it to Leonard's original. But his daddy wrote my all time favourite song "Song To The Siren", and he (Tim Buckley) is still hugely underrated, and also deserves to be remembered/given more exposure.

I can kinda see where you are coming from listening to him today, but there was nothing like his sound back in 94. Everything else was grunge or Oasis. So many bands have copied his sound, or gone in that direction, that by now the original gets lost amongst the copies.
I think he really could have changed music further than he already has. He was a bit like Ian, in that his last album got a little attention that seemed to snowball...promising that his next album would hit it big. Killed just before tearing up the scene.
I think music would be different today if he had been alive, and I would have loved the direction he would have taken it.

some of his cover versions were very interesting, but for me it's all about the hallelujah with buckley jr
apparently he jumped into the river on his way to taking a cover version of 'i know its over' by the smiths,to the record company.well thats what i programme i saw said anyway.

It certainly is, and it's also where the Stone Roses swiped half their best ideas from (cf: 'Shoot You Down').
Can't see what all the fuss was. Bought Grace for a fiver in the HMV sale, took it back and exchanged it for something else.

Much prefer John Cale's version of Hallelujah myself, probably because I heard his cover first. I bought Grace, but hardly ever play it....
