Not just unfunny Sam, he was a rather lardy physical embodiement of all people's biases against Northern working men, their clubs, the humour, in some ways a unifying aspect for racists - I'm astounded that he was even allowed on TV after 1979, but then, we had a right wing government at the time, and that particular one is probably more vilified by most than Bernard 'racist cnut' Manning...

Manning was an overt racist sexist git, but always kept on about how many 'black friends I've got, p**is too' and 'How I love women so much (especially them page three slappers)' etc.
Hitler lied to become popular too, but I agree that there was no comparison. In some of his early writings, Hitler displayed some intelligent wit...

its hard to tell a joke sometimes. its all about timing and delivery. that's why Manning was one of the best.
and he often stuck it into Man City.
eg.

I don't find Manning offensive because of the material. But as a purveyor of humor and comedy I have to sayjust dropping the n bomb doesn't make something automatically funny simply because it's taboo.
Now if some pakki rapes his corpse up the ass with a kebab skewer while he's on the slab... I'll laugh at that joke.
