Dunno Digi, will look about. I've not encountered that with Vista, because I don't really use it, it's installed and it just sits there taking up drive space.
I know about DRM in media files but have not heard of it regarding software itself.
What are you trying to install, how, and what's it saying?

I had no idea that hardware DRM was implemented yet, fuck that's terrifying as it also stops you installing anything but windows!!!!!!!!!!

Install a legit version (it will run in demo mode with no serial) and then crack the cunt after the fact.
Paying Gates for stuff he's stolen doesn't appeal to me, let him have it.

I bought a new laptop yesterday. Vista installed.
It's crap.
It uses 40% of the processing power even when it's doing nothing. That's like a car using petrol even when it's sitting on your drive!
And it doesn't properly support Microsoft Outlook Webmail. Which is the main reason I bought the fucking thing. The Administrators at my company's IT department need to install a patch on the server, which they are unwilling to do as they don't want anything to do with Vista.
I think the appropriate smiley should be...
I'll install XP as soon as I get home.
i had to uninstall the vista for that and reinstall the XP....i tried to run a lot of programs and the couldn't run. 
so, do we have to get legal software from now on??

You can dual boot, but I agree Vista is a pain. "your version" wont give you all the "are you REALLLLY sure" crap.
My machine is 2x2.8GHz with a beast of a video card, amazingly good RAM and a fast drive....5 point fucking 3 vista points. Also, the machine I mentioned having built for a cow-orker was identical save for the CPU and motherboard which were the intel equivalents of my stuff.....vista choked and said "naaah mate your machine is pish I can't even run Aero" WTF!!!!!

I've only dealt with it the one time I was at my best friends house playing about on his new desk top...it had Vista...I nearly chucked the fucker out the window...well..the front window that is...even though it had more RAM and a faster processor than my now 3 year old desk top, my old hunk is much better...
he asked what I thought he should do....In told him to get ri of Vista and install XP...he thought I was kidding....

Having had a day to learn to hate it, I can now confirm that it's very RAM hungry.
The special toy that monitors memory usage now sits at 74% all the time, even with no applications running. This is partly because I bought a laptop with only 1Meg of ram, intending to install more at the first oportunity (ie whenever I can get Ally to do it!)

IE7 is a bag of crap too. And I can't uninstall Norton. And MSN won't work.
Could be the connection I'm on, a wireless network in an office I'm visiting today. Or, of course, I could be using it wrong. But I like to think that it's the operating system that's a pile of crap.
The sad thing is, I can't see what more I'm getting. Apart from the graphics being a little slicker, I can't see Vista doing anything new.
I've got an unused copy of XP Pro at home, which I will install on this as soon as I get home.

IT'S FUCKING SHIT! I keep having to reload relevant software for printers to work on it,because the CD you get with the printer won't work with Vista. More important,I've not been able to burn a single good disc on it since I bought the new tower.Fucking hate having to pay full price for CD singles.

Well I've only recently upgraded from 98 to xp, and only then 'cos 98 doesn't support more than 512mb. I won't be switching again till I absolutely have to, and suspect then I'll probably bite the bullet and switch to linux, if it still exists by that time. Have to say I never much liked unix, always prefered VMS, but that's ancient history now.
XP is definitely way more stable than crappy 98, (and also doesn't use 16 bit integers which used to make some of my programs go wrong due to overflow), but it still has that incredibly irritating microsoft design philosophy of 'the PC knows more than you do', and still has a tendency for the whole machine to grind to a halt if it can't read the cd in the drive (though it doesn't give you a blue screen the way 9x did). Also still doesn't prioritise tasks properly so you have to wait for a 10 minute file copy to finish before it responds to your request for a tenth of second of time to open a text file, and most of all still has that f***ing paperclip. I dread to think how much more scope to be annoying Vista has opened up.
But mostly I just hate the way microsoft dominate the market, Bill Gates isn't any kind of genius, he just got lucky, exploited his early family connections, and ruthlessly exploited the qwerty effect. (Nor is he actually wicked, mind, he just plays the game by its rules. And nor are microsoft products especially awful, its just that there's so little choice one gets really pissed off with their flaws 'cos you are stuck with them).
I recently read a book about microsoft's attempt to dominate the 'multimedia market'. The book was very pro-microsoft, but what was notable, given that the events took place around 1993/4, was that Bill, for all his 'strategic genius' and plans to dominate the 'huge new market' for encyclopedias on cdroms seemed totally oblivious to the internet (which didn't merit a mention in the book) which quickly made cd rom encyclopedias redundant. Which is why most of us only ever bought them when they were given away on the covers of £3 computer magazines.

A classic comedic antic was brought to life when the 51-year-old man said he became "annoyed" with his computer. He hurled it out his window in the middle of the night on Saturday, waking up his next door neighbors.
The neighbors called the police to report the man for disturbing the peace. Upon arrival, they heard what happened and did not serve him with any charges.
A spokesperson for the German police summed it up by saying, "Who hasn't felt like doing that?"
The angered PC user did have to clean up about a half block's worth of shattered computer parts, but no police report was filed."
Used Macs a lot in early 90's, never seen one since. Nothing against them other than they're very expensive compared to PCs (and so is Mac Software and peripherals).
But their advertising is just beyond cretinous, it seems to be aimed at complete dolts(whose main concern when buying a PC, apparently, according to said crappy advertising, is that the power lead should pop out easily if you trip over it).
Though I suppose its no worse than Intel's, with its insistence that you have to have the most powerful CPU available just to word process and access the web.
Bought a new computer the other week with Vista on it (I won't say where from, though) and had to send it back because our modem and scanner are incompatible and none of the fixes we tried helped. We tried everything: downloading drivers (which didn't work), uninstalling, reinstalling, buying a new modem...we never even got as far as the scanner. The old Win98 computer is now back up and running until we can get a new one.
According to what I've heard, Vista's a complete rebuild of Windows and Gatesy and co. caught everybody off guard because they didn't tell anyone about it. Apparently there's not a lot that's compatible with it right now. Should I get an XP computer instead?
i got vista ultimate, sticky note and a few other programs are not working properly, i think its just blatently OS bloatware galore, i would advise people to steer well clear of it as much as possible

not true in every aspect, it has the security functions of windows server 2003, plus prompts you to run certain executable files before they run

Aah 'Oil. It was the IE7 upgrade that made me stay w/ Windows for such a while. Put Opera Opera's Link..after seeing their newest version.
Had the chance to use a couple different operating systems this last while.
So the question is as I play around w/ setting and transfer things over. Can I just delete most things Windows related that aren't directly tied to XP.

I've cured the Web Outlook problem by switching to Firefox.
And I've had no other problems.
Vista seems really stable, and not visibly much different from XP.
But I don't really do much with it, apart from a little surfing and reading documents.
