I've only got three of these (Jamie T, Monkeys, NYPC), and don't think any of them are that amazing (would give Jamie T the nod from those three though).

Who's gonna win it then? Arctic Monkeys are favourites according to today's press.

Good to see Maps on there, it's a great little record. I still don't really understand Arctic Monkeys: the lyrics are superb but musically it just sounds like the frantic wanking of a 13 year old boy. From Darlington. With a stupid fringe. And "skinny jeans", probably.

I saw the View just before Christmas at XFMs Winter Wonderland gig. I'm pretty sure it was them that made me fall down vomitting my insides to the floor while teen fans held their hands in the air and sang all the words to all the songs.

Saw Bat for Lashes in a "secret" gig in Brighton and I have to say that they were amazing. Completely off the wall kate Bush/ triphop type stuff in a weird genre all of its own (one of those people like Bjork who while living on this planet seems to be totally elsewhere) They all painted themselves gold and pretended they were Greek statues... But the singer is amazingly talented. Star quality. Reckon they could be ones to watch for the long haul...

Arctic Monkeys should win. But that's too easy isn't it?

As the good Doctor says, great to see Maps on there, if only to drive sales of what I think is the album of the year so far. Saw them play at Indian Summer on Sunday, they were sublime. A proper fusion of guitars and electronica that a few of the other contenders on that list would do well to learn from.

Have to disagree about the Arctic Monkeys though. Musically they're not my cup of tea but I do like that boy's lyrics. And I hardly ever listen to lyrics.

the bat for lashes album is pretty good imo, awaiting the maps one, interested to hear what he sounds like, ken thomas produced it n'est ce pas?

love how people slag off the whole list despite not having heard the actual records. i defy anyone to have heard all of them.

Agreed. Great songs behind all that otherworldly stuff. :nod:

Maps usually get compared to early Spiritualized/late-period Spacemen 3 but with added electronics, which is a bit reductive but still not a million miles away.

gotta be maps,brilliant album and even better as a live band,seen them a couple of times this year,you can watch a live set from last year on channel m website,i've got it on dvd,i burnt it from sky+ to give to my mates so i could get them to come and watch them with me
