why can't i update myprofile and it save the damn thing?

Cos Spotty never put the "no cache" tag on that page.
What happens, is that you change your profile and save it, but when you go back to the profile page, your browser loads local cached copy....with the OLD information! If you then save that it reverts everything.
Do the following and see if it helps.....
Make your changes and save them. Then click on your profile link again. This time when the page loads, hit Control+F5, which means (refresh and do not fob me off with any cached crap asswipe). (just F5 will probably do just as well, but adding control is the "rude and forceful" way to ask.
Hopefully, when you refresh you should see that your changes persist.

Mods wouldn't be able to advise on anything like that, we have absolutely no powers other than to edit or delete messages. Sorry.
