Ballymena the town that we all love in my humble opinion is quite unique, as there were originally three roundabouts in the town where five roads met The most famous of these, again in my humble opinion was the Pentagon, which before the advent of the one-way traffic system made Oxford Street in London look like a picnic. On any night except Sunday come six o'clock it was hiving with paper boys, trying to sell the 'Belfast Telegraph'. Nearby was the State picture house where two local characters known as the Pogues, big Jimmy and wee Sammy, used to loiter from about five o'clock waiting for the first showing at ten past six. Although they had some loose slates, they were never short of an answer and I quote: some smart Alec who was passing inquired of wee Sammy why they were waiting as it was at least half an hour before the picture house opening time. To which big Jimmy interjected 'It won't take Sammy and me long o' waiting half an hour'. There were impressive buildings on each of the five corners, the most grandiose being Dickey & Pinkertons car showroom, the Ulster Bank and the Masonic hall. Dickey and Pinkertons is long gone, the Ulster bank has moved to new premises but the Masonic hall still remains. The pentagon was also a great meeting place for courting couples and one story from the fifties is fresh in my mind. A dashing young fellow from the Cullybackey area had a date with a young lady ( I use the term loosely ) and he turned up at the appropriate time, only to see this lady go walking by with another man. Not to be outdone this young man made another date with the 'lady' and then walked past with her best friend on his arm at the appointed time. But alas and alack the Pentagon is now only a shadow of its former self, but I'm sure it could tell a host of stories, if it could talk.

I think, given that waxing lyrical about Ballymena is an entirely new concept, that Snoop's been drinking the dregs from about 50 bottles of the stuff, and has overdosed on Donkey's toenails and strange root extracts.
Interestingly, as far as I can tell, youtube is devoid of clips of Ballymenamen speaking the native babble. I smell a conspiracy.
