  1. Sisters of Mercy - dragged on forever, lots of petty squabbles.

  2. The Smiths - Can't say I don't find Morrisey being stiched up amusing.

  3. The Loft - Surely no-one can beat splitting up live on stage?

Smashing Pumpkins. The new of their break-up was announced in the morning on Fox news back in 2000. I was in high school at the time and a kid I knew who liked SP as much as I do told me, "Did you know SP broke up this morning?" and I was like, "WTF? That just came out of nowhere."

There was an Italian heavy metal band (into satanism and all that crap) who murdered their own singer. A google reveals they were called 'beasts of satan'. I think that is probably a pretty extreme way to break up.

News report google turns up ends "After killing the two teenagers, the Satanic band pushed their lifeless bodies into a pit and urinated on them. " Which makes Hookys blog posting seem kind of innocuous really.

WOW...that's the way to do it...

I always figured that's how Oasis would go about it...but seeing as it's been done before...

especially acrimonious for U.S tours...

the reunion gig for the damn Rock & Roll Hall of Fame notwithstanding, I seriously doubt Talking Heads will ever get back together in any way, shape or form.

Dead Kennedys for number three on my list.

:) What? At least they still make music and perform, plus they do need a bassist. Trevor Horn does all bass work for them nowadays.

Saw Stump split up onstage at the Electric Ballroom in Camden. They apparently just decided during the encore.

Also, Black Dog i think split up at a Brixton Megadog, and came onstage announcing themselves as 'Plaid'.
