This is what really has been making news here. This man is very likely to be our next PM in a few months time. It is good. It proves he is human after all.

Rudd's wild night is finally laid bare

LABOR leader Kevin Rudd sat in the VIP section of Manhattan's famed Scores strip club, ordered beers and was "a little rowdy", the club's owner Elliot Osher said.

Mr Osher said he remembered the incident in September 2003 because "I was right there".

He said Mr Rudd, then Labor's foreign affairs spokesman, and Northern Territory Labor MP Warren Snowdon were "snotty" and "uppity" after ordering beers in the lap-dancing clubs VIP section.

He said the party, which included New York Post editor-in-chief Col Allan, was in the club for less than 15 minutes, no one had any lap dances and nobody threw them out.

"Nobody in the party touched a girl," Mr Osher said.

"They all had suits and ties on. He (Mr Allan) wanted to go. He said: 'No, no this won't do' and his party was acting up and he just walked them all out.

"The people he was with, you could tell they had a few drinks, and they were just acting snotty, you know uppity. Like, 'Get me this, get me that'," he said.

"The only reason I remember it is because that's the only time the editor of the Post came in.

"They wanted to stay, he wanted to go, you know. He definitely didn't want to stay, but they wanted to stay."

Mr Rudd has admitted being in Scores with Mr Allan and Mr Snowdon in September 2003 while he was in New York for a United Nations session. The

Opposition Leader said he was too drunk to remember what happened but denied reports he was warned off by bouncers for inappropriate behaviour.

Speaking from a friends home in The Hamptons, Mr Osher did not identity Mr Rudd, Mr Allan or Mr Snowdon by name and said he could not describe them because it was four years ago.

The Federal Government yesterday rejected charges it was behind the story of Mr Rudd's night on the town.

The Labor leader continued to point to Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, who was in New York at the time four years ago, as the culprit. And an independent source told The Daily Telegraph Mr Downer's office was trying to get the story written last April - just before the ALP national conference.

Senior Government figures denied any involvement and Prime Minister John Howard and Mr Downer declined to comment.

Journalist Glenn Milne, who wrote the original story for The Sunday Telegraph, said no Government source was involved: "It was outside political circles but it was around, so it wasn't placed by the Government."
