Unfortunately Johnny, I am too poor to have ever travelled to Rio (I get horny just driving down the M1 to Milton Keynes for the day to do a lecture yak yak yak) so I can't make an executive choice, HOwever, can I suggest Simon Le Bon? I guess he knows all there is to know about Rio. ;)

I second that. Actually, I think the São Paulo beaches are the best in the world, and that "paulistas" should stay in their own fantastic beaches and don`t come down to mess up the south ones

Some Brazilian girls we got friendly with in a bar invited us to Barra da Tijuca but we never made it the next day.Too hungover to make the short trip there.One of life's great missed opportunities.Apparantley it's a great beach
I'd go with Copacabana, but not for the actual beach part. The people-watching and drinks and food between the beach and the avenue were so much fun.
