Holy fuck, after the death of Formula one, it now seems that Scotland's greatest export, St. Colin of McRea, MAY have met a sticky end.

The BBC are reporting a downed chopper with no survivors near the McRea ranch. Colin is noted as a keen pilot.

Story here..........

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/6996860.stm

I hope he (and Ally and Jimmy of course) are fine and it's just two randoms who've splattered their whirlybird.

EDIT: the story has updated now, it really looks like the mad scots fucker has been killed, after all those incredible smashes in a "dangerous" racing car, he dies in a "safe"[1] helicopter.

They thing is, Bertie Fisher, Northern Ireland's greatest Rally man died in his chopper too, albeit that the bell-end took off in fog.

A tragedy, I always adored Colin. I truly hope Jimmie and Alistair are OK.

[1] Choppers are the saftest example of "the safest way to travel" since even an engine failure will not cause a crash owing to their ability to "autorotate", essentially, they drop like a sycamore seed, the blades being spun faster and faster by the rush of air, then, the pilot feeds a bit of collective (rotor pitch) in and gets lots of free lift to make a (less than comfortable) landing.

I saw this on BBC News 24 when I was leaving for work today. I just hope Colin wasn't in that helicopter, would be gutted if he goes out like that:banghead: Here's hoping, Cheers!

1st Richard Burns and now Colin McRea :(

Fella was a legend. I wouldn't have trudged up a Welsh mountain at 4 o'clock on a freezing November morning to see anyone else drive.

Really terrible news. Apparently Alistair (his brother - also a rally driver) told police Colin was on board

RIP Colin

Read it. Crazy.

When accidents claim lives. Doesn't ever get any easier does it.

Then held up in the light against, say, GW Bush and other supposed Leaders of Men risking an !wasting other Families' lives.

Would help if we can get his name right.... McRae

RIP - a terrible shame.

A man of few words but a blindingly quick driver.

Seems it's official...Colin, his wee'un, a family friend and another kid have been killed.

Gutted. Loved the man's style and competitive determination.

Overwhelming memoery was of he and Nicky Grist with a twatted suspension strut, stopping on the road sectiom, phoning the team and being told they were boned. They promptly removed the strut, set it on a big rock, and heaved huge boulders at it until it looked straighter. They stuck it back on and set off to set fastest time on the next stage.

Helicopters seem to be as dangerous to rally drivers as porker 911's are to F1 guys.

A crying shame.

Horrible news. A complete shame. He quickly became my favorite driver when Speed TV used to carry the full season of WRC. I bought and enjoyed his video game.

He was just beginning to to achieve fame here in the US with his participation in the X Games.

I guess it just goes to show you never know when your time is up. Hug and kiss your loved ones today.

R.I.P.

In a bizarre twist, David Richards, Colin's team principle when he was with Subaru, crashed his helicopter the very next day!!!!!! Thankfully Dave and Mrs Richards were fine.

Such a shame two weeuns were killed in Colin's crash. Still can't accept that something as safe (albeit a bollox to control) as a chopper could kill a man as seemingly indestructable as Colin.

As for Rallying in the US, yous used to be quite involved, but seem to have got bored mid-80's. Hopefully Travis Pastrama's Subaru drive will change that. Now that's one PROPERLY mad cunt.
