Just got home. I'm freezing cold and just want to chill out.

I know, I think, put my playlist on............no......won't happen cos I keep gettin this b***rd message saying system alert .............

then it says 'somebody is trying to infect your pc with spyware or harmful viruses - run a full system scan etc.........

it is really pissing me off..........this auto runs a scan every 48 hours.......

I keep pressing the 'piss off'button, but it wont leave me alone......lying there chilling; wine in one hand, remote in the other and then suddenly a guitar riff turns into a Phil Collins drum solo...............it really isnt on.

Trouble is, if I throw it, as I am tempted, I am not absolutely sure I will miss the rabbit hutch; and whilst she is a vicious cow; I wouldnt wish a pc on her head.

Steve.............anyone..............help? Save the planet..........(or at least the rabbit). Bloody hell, Neil Young's on now...............

chatroom chill is what you need although having said that,its suddenly struggling for people resourses lately

Unplug the network cable (or switch off the wireless....PLEASE GOD tell me you don't have wireless), you are then safe, barring mp3 bourne viri (which tend to give themselves away by virtue of wrecking the track).

Result....if it pops another alert....it is provably insane and you can do control alt delete and bludgeon the cunt to atoms.

And once you've chilled enough....tell it to wind it's neck in and stop auto scanning for anything but viri, and to be content with by-daily spyware scans.

Can you remind me why you don't like Wireless, I've genuinely forgotten. I realise you said some cheeky sod could sit outside my house and use my internet free of charge, but as I pay a set amount each month I'm happy for half of Horwich to do it - no skin off my nose.

What are the other drawbacks? Only, I used to spend hours sat at my pc in my dining room. Now i can relax with my feet up in the lounge, or go in the kitchen where it's really bright and even in bed at night - luxury. Can't imagine not having wireless now.

Admittedly once in a blue moon, my signal is bad and I have to check everything but that's a small price to pay for my freedom!!!

Yeah, I've got this erm oopps.........WEP/WPA? something like that key that I have to key in; so in theory it's secure. Its been fine since but every so often it acts weird.

Periodically, well actually its becoming more frequent; if one of us are on the laptop and the other 2 on a different pc all at the same time.......then it also does a number. I have to switch off the router........wait for a couple of minutes and then turn it back on. Then everything is fine........why though? Actually, no please don't tell me.

Over the last few months this thing has just got slower and slower and slower and it won't let me in to some websites at all sometimes.........dunno why.....

Yup, and if you have a password and encrypted connection, wireless isn't an issue...

And, anyway, any attacks on an unsecured wireless connection depends on someone being (relatively) close to your house (e.g. next door neighbour), or someone sitting directly outside - the range of wireless ain't that great... :)

Yes, as long as you encrypt you;re OK. BUT WEP encryption can be broken in about 2 mins flat. You need to use WPA (and I can't just now, everytime I switch to it, and bring up the wireless on my laptop, our router dies).

Other people using it may become a problem if they use up all your "unlimited" bandwidth, or do something ilegal.

Apart from that, I don't like it cos it may be fine for the net, but it is useless for doing proper network stuff.....shifting 30GB of music around by wireless....yawn.

Yeah, just checked; WPA it is.

I only really do normal stuff on it - mainly work - apart from here and myspace...and keep a pretty tight check on what the kids go on......I dunno, maybe just a glitch?

i've got a 'main' PC in the bedroom, 'media' PC in the living room, laptop and a nintendo Wii all connected via a BT broadband homehub with a 320GB network drive shared between them all. Never have any problems, no-one can steal it and mcaffe is keeping it all virus free.
