Its England vs France...

I don't usually give a f___ about rugby, but two shock results have just brought up the dream semi final, between two countries that despise each other, for a place in the World Cup Final.

not a rugby fan either but i found myself watching both games.did i hear right that the semi next saturday ? if so then its the same time has england v estonia

It is not nice and fair to wish bad things. But you are right, the way England usually plays kills a bit, if not more, the spirit of the game... But having a scoring machine like Wilkinson is always a good thing to a team... enough to keep eyes shut on the way points are scored...

Sorry Ron. I forgot that Australia was defeated by England, thanks to Mr..., as usual...

You said it ! Normally, I do not despise England at all as you might expect a Frenchman to do it (well, compared to you Burt, I am less than a light-weight), but for the time of a rugby match, that is another story... An England vs France rugby match leads me to total frenzy... Maybe an pre-Entente Cordiale syndrom which remains somewhere within me...

Quite amazing day, indeed. Australia out and New-Zealand also... That was Outsiders' day !

For what its worth I entirely agree, but the Aussie mentality will surely understand the 'play to your strengths' strategy. I'm sure my country's side will be dethroned by a team that plays 'rugby', with the ideals in which we created it, but for now, we are just pinning it on one man, again.

True... was a game won through strength and strategy. I was just just tempering Ron's sour grapes. I must say, as every man in England is prolly saying, I vastly prefer playing the French than NZ, although SA is ermm.. a bit worrying. Hence my point about rugby winning through. Although lets hope it doesnt.

True, you can thank us. You won't have to compete New-Zealand !!! It is always the same with our teams. We win against the favourite, we lose strenght on it and we open the way to the others to win the cup... Blimey ! We are and will remain the English buffering zone forever !!!

I suspect our respective teams have both 'shot our load' a bit too early, and made it easy for SA. But we will see. May the best team win.

I must say that I enjoyed the other quarters today... South Africa vs Fidji was an interesting game. As we say in French, the Southern Africans "have come back from far"... It came a moment in the game when you could see that the Africans were really doubting... The others almost did it !!! But it was not outsiders' day anymore.

Argentina vs Scotland was a bit less intense. Nice Scottish fighting spirit, but it was not enough. Bad luck also... it seemed like they were playing with a piece of soap...

Final will be England or France vs Argentina in my opinion. First point : Argentinian rugby improved these last years. Second point : they seem to be still training... No real shock until today. No Australia, no New-Zealand, no South Africa on the way... They are the ones who suffered less yet and if they win South Africa, the final will be a slaughter for the English or the French (as I expect that France vs England will one already). You have to keep your cup. We play home. And this bloody cup must stay in EUROPE !

Its a damn shame, Scotland couldnt win today. The thought of beating our two oldest enemies to retain the cup is sadly no longer available, although Argentina would have some needle.

If there's one thing that Australia is known for in sports generally, it's win at all costs. England did this against us. They played to their strengths, it was ugly to watch, but brutal and ultimately successful. Fair enough.

I'm no WCE fan but it was pretty tragic. Always seemed a decent knockabout bloke. Reports suggest he was going through some tough times at home, went on a weekend bender and reacted badly to some gear. At 41! Makes you think twice about what you get up to.
